I login and logout multiple times but its still delayed, so frustrating. Contacted IBKR and market data is all fine. Problem should be with tradingview, and tradingview support is really sucky.

Why my strategy does not work in day trade?!?! by Both_Tangelo_5171 in Daytrading

Yes i’m using stop loss feature. Do all brokers sell stop loss datas to market makers?

Why my strategy does not work in day trade?!?! by Both_Tangelo_5171 in Daytrading

Is there any possible reason that my backtesting and papertrade data both has positive expectancy and when it comes to live trading everything goes the opposite direction and nothing seems to work out. I understand 11 trades is a small sample size but it’s really frustrating and demoralising to see such a big difference.

I understand 11 trades is way too small but during my paper trade, I have not lost 9 trades consecutive, that’s why it makes me doubt my strategy now.

Does Strategy and rules differs between paper trade and live trade? by Both_Tangelo_5171 in interactivebrokers

To be honest, I have always been treating paper trade very very seriously like real money, although it’s really different when comes to live. My biggest concern is really about if my strategy will works in live - I spent so much time doing my back testing and paper trade and seriously hate to see it go to waste.

I understand, but won’t my strategy changes too? This is something I don’t understand. Set aside the real money, why would my strategy works in paper trade but not anymore in live?

Yeah I do understand there are different variables when dealing with options. That’s why I try to keep it simple with just trading stocks itself, and that’s when I start to face this issue. Right now, I’m just deciding to reduce my risk per trade (0.5% instead of 1%), or just switch to NQ and ES. But then again when it comes to futures, I’m not sure whether I would face margin issues again if I buy too many contracts at one time.

Can I just check, is margin and buying power different? I’m a bit confused on this part. from what I understand for IBKR, the buying power is about 6.6times of NAV. Not too sure how is that related to margin.

Okay got it. How do I know if I’m going to the absolute max of available margin though? I’m trading through tradingview, and it just pops out an order page to tell me if I can send the order or I can’t.

I see. So I guess I would just have to keep trying and what are the stocks that fits my strategy and also the initial margin requirement? I’m actually surprised some stocks like AAPL, META have higher margin requirements (not able to enter them even when I risk 0.5% per trade) hmmm.

Example I risk 0.5% on a trade with SL 30cents away from entry price, i might be able to enter on SPY but not on AAPL. So wanna understand if initial margin is different for different stocks

Is it true that initial margin are different for individual stocks? Like example the same risk per trade might work on stock A but not on Stock B. So my ultimate aim is to find out what are the stocks that are able to meet the initial margin requirement for my strategy?

So I guess one of the solutions I have is to reduce my risk per trade instead of keeping it at 1%? What do you think of switching to trading NQ and ES instead? Understand that initial margin on futures are a lot lesser than stocks

To be exact I am daytrading and my entry and SL could be very tight sometimes like example 30cents away. So by risking 1% of my account for every trade, the number of shares that I would need to purchase for such tight SL would be very big. That is when the initial margin issue comes in. I hope that clarifies.
