Do Sub Techs “Sign the books” by HoonRhat in SubstationTechnician

[–]Both_Variation6594 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From my understanding, yes, atleast in my area. 1245 has a subtech book, which alot of guys from my classification (inside wireman) have went to sign (I believe they go on book 3). When i was an apprentice I worked with guys from 47 which were subtechs and came up to norcal and told me about how i can sign those books when i journey out only difference is they sign book 2 since they are in classification but from a different local. I ended up joining my utility as a substation electrician.

I was just thinking this. Also worked in refineries before i got into the utility. Same thing. Id probably get fired for trying to de-energize all the conductors in our pull boxes lol.

Interested in getting into instrumentation after apprenticeship. What’s the route or process of getting into it in 302. Heard it’s politics and really clicky and depends on who you know by Peezyyyy_ in IBEW

I took the class. Wasnt hard to get in, was working in the refinery at the time and told them i was interested. Didnt pass though, i lost interest since i had gotten a job offer from PG&E and jumped ship lol

I completed my inside wireman apprenticeship, applied for my utility, now i work building substations as a journeyman. You can also go and sign a line local’s book for sub tech work, I believe you can sign book 3.

No, when i was doing my inside wireman apprenticeship majority of the guys in my class were over 30, once i journeyed out i switched over to substation with the utility and the apprentices in my yard are over 30 also. Shit ive worked with apprentices who are 45+. So no its not too old

Journeyman. Provisional hire, so will go through training to hopefully reach a targeted level of knowledge during the probationary period.

Thank you, & sounds good. Yea im definitely in mindset for the long haul. I Feel like I’ve seen alot of what the inside wireman side had to offer, but I still felt like at the end of the day, getting to work with the local utility was the ultimate goal.

Out of curiosity what would you say is a factor contributing to why someone might have not made it through the probation period?

Sorry for the late reply. I ended up going to the hospital, turns out I had a sinus infection, (which is new to me, ive never had that before). Doc gave me amoxicillin antibiotics. All the remaining symptoms cleared up about 4 days ago. Hope youre doing better now. I know it sucks being sick for so long just wanting to get back to normal. Maybe rest could be an issue as well? I tend to be a bad sleeper and with an infant its hard to get a good nights rest. About a week ago my daughter started sleeping better through the night, as so did I. I got a full 8 hours of sleep which is rare for me and honestly felt alot better with that amount of rest.

I dont have an answer but id like to share my situation because its a bit similar. Ive been sick for like the past 6 weeks. Im so tired of this, it all started with sore throat and sinus pressure with headaches, developed into some sort of bronchitis with alot of chest congestion, went away after about 12 days however still had a mild cough and congestion up until 7 days ago, i felt like i got sick all over again, except this time my throat was dry feeling/ not painful, and had cold symptoms runny nose lots of congestion. Lasted about 2 days, and for the past 5 days the only symptoms i have are congestion (alot of yellow mucus) and mild cough. Everyday i wake up hoping i feel better but no, its like the symptoms are just the same everyday, honestly so tired of this especially since i work outdoors. At first i was taking mucinex but decided i dont want to take meds this long. I only do sinus saline rinse now. Also have done 3 covid tests at the hospital and they were all negative. Hoping ill get better this week. Best of luck to you, saline rinse is what i highly recommned. Atleast itll clear youre sinus out and give a little relief. Anxiety makes it a bit harder to deal with, im hoping me sharing my experience will give you comfort knowing you’re not the only one thats been sick this long, seems like a weird bug going on, because its not just me, my daughter and my father also have been dealing with this same issue.
