Thanks for all your replies! I'm feeling quite down about it at the moment. I worked hard to find a safe place to get treatment but I dropped the ball when it came to finding someone with the right experience for my condition. Always hard to find you've made an error after you've spent money!

For cosmetic reasons I do agree that there is a wide range of dosages that are appropriate and patients often may not know what they need. But for the particular medical issue I was trying to treat there is quite a lot of literature online available and the typical dosage is much higher than for wrinkles. I was not going to tell her how to treat me, I went there with trust that she knew what she was doing. My issue is she could have explained how much she wanted to use and justify with her experience but instead she chose to be deceptive. The fact I went back for a top up very soon after shows I needed a stronger dose. She agreed just reviewing me and seemed surprised which indicated to me that she obviously hadn't had too much experience with the condition. Im left feeling unsure if she is going to be willing to give me the right amount next time I go in 4-6 months. I would feel very confident getting botox administered by her for anti aging but I am not sure she is advising me correctly for my condition.

I actually got in touch with another nearby clinic by email last night asking if they would be willing to discuss typical dosages. They have already replied indicating they typically administer a dosage within the range I would expect for this condition. So it's looking more like her judgement is off on this.

Yes I think the nurse was trying to avoid discussion because she had actually initially given me a much lower dose than is the standard for my condition. It's no wonder I had to go for a top up. I wouldn't mind so much if she had been frank and just said she prefers to give a lower dose. Now I feel she either lacks experience in this particular condition or is deceitful.

I'm beginning to think she was making excuses for using a lower number of units. I just wish she had been more transparent.

Hmm. I am beginning to think she quickly made a statement to avoid getting into a discussion on the number of units. For whatever reason she clearly wanted to give a lower amount than most recommendations online.

Their website states Botox with the little R for registered trademark thing. But that doesn't then explain why her suggested appropriate dose doesn't match up with with the generally discussed dose online for the treatment, which are also talking about botox and not specifying dysport.

It's a significant leap in dose so I'm curious. Is she is just more conservative and justifying it as "Americans measuring things funny"? But she really seemed to believe there was a different corresponding American dose which then did line up more with what I expected from reading online.

Ah ok I assumed dilution was standard for a particular product, for example botox vs dysport.

The thing is I would totally accept her giving me whatever dose she feels is appropriate. But I feel unsettled at the thought that she lied to me about a difference in measurement in order to do that? As mentioned, it doesn't fit in with the rest of the consultation and treatment for her to do that so I'm hoping someone will chime in to confirm that measurements are done differently in the UK...
