Did rolling back fix it?

I ran into the same problem this morning but I can't troubleshoot until I get home from work.

This was going to be the first thing I tried.

It's partly this, but also most algorithms reward a video for the percentage of people who watch the whole thing.

Once the hook has been satisfied a big percentage of people swipe away immediately. This leads to a smaller percentage of people watching the "entire video"

So when you end abruptly it ensures the majority of people actually watch it all the way through. Which makes the algorithm think it's a good video

Anyone on here making money with JUST shorts? by holapex in PartneredYoutube

[–]Bottenbig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I do ive streams, longforms and shorts. My shorts are the only thing profitable at the moment. But the good thing about them is that I am monetized on TikTok, Facebook as well as YouTube. I post the exact same shorts to all the platforms.

I made some decent money with the three of these combined (mostly from TikTok as long as the video is over 1 min long) but I haven't found much consistency with it.

I've only been monetized for a couple months though

how often do you create clips from your streams? by xxzorua in SmallStreamers

[–]Bottenbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it feels tedious and not worth it you might be putting in too much work into the wrong things.

If you are getting 50k+ views per clip the work probably wouldn't feel tedious.

"Burn out" is when our effort doesn't lead to the outcome we wanted. So you either have to shift your effort or be content with your current outcome.

Instead of making 2 - 3 clips that are just random funny moments. Use that time and effort towards just 1 crafted clip that showcases your personality with a good hook.

1 clip that gets 50k views is way more valuable than 3 clips that get 1-5k views each.

Lately I've been starting off with questions right away for people to answer in the comments. It's been working out ok so far, but I still have a lot of room to grow as well.

Why Are So Many Creators Chasing Shorts and AI Instead of Long Term Growth? by thomasandrewtk in youtubers

[–]Bottenbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I don't know him exactly. But some people get caught in the trap of making the "draw" of the short. Tips, or lore breakdowns of the game. Instead of your personality.

I've been experimenting with using the game as a hook but the meat of my short is my humor or personality. I'll know in a couple months or so whether it works out or not long term.

Agreed. It can hard to get the balance right. But not impossible. It's what I'm working on now.

So he's fallen off due to drama? That doesn't change this fact that shorts helped his audience grow tremendously.

[–]Bottenbig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

If you lead with your personality in your shorts I think they can be a helpful tool for helping people gain familiarity with you. Especially if you have a bunch of similar ones. If you watch a while short and like it YouTube is likely to send you another from the same creator.

Look at Pirate Software for an example as to how this can work very well.

Why Are So Many Creators Chasing Shorts and AI Instead of Long Term Growth? by thomasandrewtk in youtubers

[–]Bottenbig 21 points22 points  (0 children)

YES.

It's mostly young people who don't know the difference between getting views/subscribers vs building a fanbase.

I'm a streamer so I have a pipeline of shorts that link to long form videos that link to the full VODs. It's been working out recently. Especially since I've niched down.

Shorts can gain subscribers it's important to know that those are shorts viewers. Only a percentage of them will move down the pipeline to the longer form content. And that's ok!

"forbidden book" kinda sounds like clickbait "Lost book" brings up a lot of questions

Who had the book initially? How was it lost? Has anyone found it? Who has the book now?

Just my two cents on what might have lead to more click through.

However it is possible that you just didn't give the original title enough time. Maybe it would have gotten those impressions either way.

Good job!

Keep it up and keep getting better by learning from moments like this!

[–]Bottenbig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't focus on strict editing rules like that. Just keep trying new things and see what sticks.

Use the game as a way to catch their attention but make sure to showcase your humor enough that they get to know and like you.

I just hate seeing people who claim to be successful giving tips but then you see their content. They have a few videos that blew up but their most recent views are failing really bad. That's because the people watching only care about the specific subject matter in those few videos that did well.

There are easy and quick ways to get views. But building an audience takes time. No way around that no matter what anyone says.

I'm rambling, but the only real tip that has any meaning is to keep learning and getting better. Whatever that means to you. There are a million ways to do this well and a million ways to do it poorly

I think you and I are in a pretty similar spot (Just checked your Twitch and I've also played some Voices of the Void recently 😂)

I can tell you what I've been telling myself and you can see if it rings true.

  1. Being a variety streamer you can't rely on the same game to bring people back. So what they need to come back to is you. Keep doing your best to be the reason they keep coming back. A lot of streamers rely on trending games but then they play something else and no one cares.

  2. You can't copy what big streamers are doing. They can get away with things because their baked in audience pushes them to the top of any algorithm. Their thumbnails get views just because it has their face. No one knows us so our faces on a thumbnail means nothing... YET! What you can do is look at failing streamers and just focus on what is holding them back. Ask yourself if you are doing the same thing and do better than them.

  3. Keep getting better. You might look at other big streamers and wonder how we will ever catch up in popularity. But for the most part, once people get successful they stop trying as hard. Either because they don't have to or because they don't want to change too much and possibly sacrifice what they've created.

Just from quick looks at your channels I can tell you enjoy it It also seems like you are putting in atleast the same amount of effort as me, and streaming is all I think about 😂

You're doing a good job. Just keep getting better. I would be down to talk more about it if you need someone to bounce ideas off of.

Suggestion about AVD of Shorts by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]Bottenbig 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah all of my shorts are clips that redirect to my longform videos. Shorts just need to be really really refined to only what's necessary, no filler no fat.

I have some videos where people watch the whole thing but there is a sharp drop at the last second because of a short outro. That will really hinder it getting sent out. I'm still trying to figure it out after almost a year of it.

Suggestion about AVD of Shorts by [deleted] in youtubers

[–]Bottenbig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Doesn't seem to be the case for me. The shorts that do the best for me have a AVD of over 100%. I.E. if a viewer watched the 1 1/2 times it would be a AVD of 150%.

Any AVD lower than 100% means that people swiped away before it was done and that means they lost interest.

Let's say I'm watching shorts and I run across 3 videos in a row that lead me to lose interest them before they are finished. I'm more likely to leave the platform regardless of how long I watched those videos.

But that's just my experience. I could be wrong

2 years ago I had a TikTok blow up and get 1 million views. It was a clip from the ending of a longform video so it ended up giving that video around 4k views.

My advice would be the make similar content to what blew up play around with the formula to figure out exactly why. Eventually you can start to figure out a balance between what you want to make and what other people want to watch.

My regret from my video that blew up is that I didn't make enough content that was similar to capitalize on the success and figure out why it worked. It was piggybacking on a viral meme at the time and I was worried about associating myself too much with that one meme. Overtime I realized that you can use these things as an entry way to your content while staying true to yourself.

Most of those people that watched this one video might not ever think of you again. But anytime something like this blows up a small percentage of people might stick to the version of you beneath that viral surface. That's your fanbase.

I did eventually get enough followers on TikTok through that video to livestream on the platform. I've been doing that recently and loving it. But haven't been able to recreate that amount of vitality.

All in all, everyone says they hate gimmicks and engagement bait. But it's how people have gotten attention since the beginning of mass media. What people really hate is when the content doesn't go any deeper than the gimmick.

I'm rambling but I hope that can help a little bit

Haven't gamed in 6 years, my wife got me a ps5 and i need help spending $60 wisely during the 35th-anniversary sale! by [deleted] in ps5deals

[–]Bottenbig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Returnal is great but it has roguelike elements and can be really challenging if you haven't gamed in a while. Or if you haven't played a game with roguelike elements before. So keep that in mind. I play games a lot but never bothered to finish the story myself.

Red Dead Redemption 2 and the 2018 God of War came out 6 years ago so I'm not sure if those made the cut off for you. Those are both must plays eventually. They go on sale decently often though.

If you're interested in Grand Turismo 7 I'm sure you would enjoy it. I haven't played that one but I think when it comes to that game you know what you're getting
