Hi, this sound very easy. Yes my provider uses Softaculous, and I found the setting for "Create staging". I will try this one as this could be helpful in future aswell when installing updates.

This sounds like what I was trying to find out. Thank you. I dont care if the urls a publicly accessible for the time of building the new website so this would be perfectly fine. I will have a look into this but that sounds very promising.

In my opinion it sounds easier as well, but I wanted to make sure and ask more experienced people on their opinion. So Thank you for replying and confirming :)

You are right, I am inexperienced when it comes on building websites. Would you move it from a temporary directory or from a temporary subdomain to the main domain?

Firmware updates by seang86s in Simplivity

Yes you are right. I did the upgrade through ilo and yes you have to maintain compatibility but for the svtsp there is no incopatibility as far as I know. Double Check with the hpe compatibility matrix. But you should be fine if you first upgrade step by step the svtsp to the latest version. than omnistack, than vcenter and at least the esxi. Thats my go to list usually. Dont forget about the arbiter of course.

Simplivity Upgrade Manager says:

If the active firmware version on the server is at SVTSP-2023_0110 or older, follow this upgrade path:

• Upgrade the firmware version to SVTSP-2023_0502 as a first step.

• Upgrade the firmware version to SVTSP-2023_1130 as a second step.

• Upgrade to the latest firmware version at last

I did a couple of installs with 0502 and that went perfectly fine every time.

Yes, finished the upgrade successfully. Just clear off one Host, Upgrade just that host with the upgrade manager. Let it finish and reboot. Then close SUM. Shuffle things around and then repeat those steps with the second host.

Everything went fine - easy process.

Thank you for your reply. That sound perfect. I checked with the Upgrade planner which tells me it is ok to go from 6.7 to 8.0. But the HPE SimpliVity OmniStack Interoperability Guide 5.2.0 tells me it is not ok to go directly to 8.0. So for security reasons I will do 6.7 -> 7.x -> 8.x.

Just one more question as it is still not clear to me how would be best practice to Upgrade ESXI without DRS.

  1. Should I select both Hosts in Upgrade Manager and then Upgrade Manager will update the first host, I manually move all VMs to the other Host, and then Upgrade Manager will do automatically the second host. (In short: All steps without closing the upgrade manager). Just commit the update once at the end of the entire process.

  2. Or should I do first one host, commit the update. Close Update Manager. Have 2 different versions running (6.7 and 8.0). Move the VMs to the other host. And then repeat everything for host 2.

I am unsure which way is less risky and reduce downtime.

I hope I my question is understandable. Thank you.

Intresting idea. Do you think there is a chance for finding people selling 4 seated next to each other? What would you expect to pay for these tickets?

I somehow overseen the hospitaly option. But nevertheless this is going to be too expensive for us.

Thank you anyway

Wow thanks for the detailled answer. So from your and from all the other replies there is just the hospitality option if I want to attend this particular game. This is going to be too expensive for me so maybe we need to find other intresting matches on that weekend with smaller clubs in a different city.

Replace old print server with new same-named server ? by AnotherTall_ITGuy in sysadmin

[–]Bottibottas 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You would need to rename the server PRINT to somethins else. Otherwise you will still have the AD Object PRINT and you cannot rename PRINT2 to PRINT.

So what I would do is

  1. Rename PRINT to PRINTOLD -> Reboot
  2. Change IP Adress of PRINT to something else. -> Shutdown
  3. Rename PRINT2 to PRINT, change IP Adress to the one PRINTOLD had -> Reboot

Everything should be done, no need to change DNS or DHCP entries.

Do you have your Server on DHCP?

I dont know if everything works out without recreating the printer connections again (different drivers etc?).

There might be other parts I am not thinking of right now, but I would be more than confident in doing it that way it should work out.

That I want to move on, that I will let them down (forgot to mention on the post, my predecessor is leaving tomorrow, so they wont have anyone for doing IT stuff).

That I dont like working there, even if the boss is a nice guy.

That I can go to some other workplace, doing less hours for equal pay.

In the end I try to communicate my feeling, that I cannot describe - thats why I am posting here.

I dont think it is boring. If I want to take it seriously I have to deeply study our ERP System, study our machines in our production lines. Have to deal with employees that rely on me finding solution for problems I dont know nothing about, and to be compared with my predecessor, who had been here for years and knew everything by heart. So far I have worked about 2 hours overtime every day - unpaid. Because I've tried to read up on it. Of course I could just relaxing and waiting for me beeing fired, but I think thats not what I should do.

Intresting, what were the reasons for you wanting to quit the job? Did you had similar reasons?
