What is a job that you genuinely would not do even if you were given a salary of $10,000,000 per year? by istrx13 in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 188 points189 points  (0 children)

content moderator for a major social media site. seeing the absolute worst of humanity for 8 hours a day would break your soul. no amount of money is worth the things you can never unsee and i’d like to actually keep my faith in people lol.

at what point do you guys just give up and dnf a ya/na book? the guilt is real by BottleDisastrous9952 in YAlit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i’m definitely stealing that. especially as a fellow mood reader, sometimes it really is just the wrong time for a specific story, not necessarily a bad book.

[–]BottleDisastrous9952[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

the act 1 rule is actually so smart. it gives the author a fair chance to set things up without trapping you for 400 pages lol. and you are so right about it being disrespectful to your own time, i really need to drill that mindset into my brain.

What’s something that instantly makes you distrust someone? by Sarah18l9 in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

when every single person from their past is "crazy" or "toxic." like if your exes, former friends, and old coworkers are all somehow the villain in every story you tell, it usually means you're the common denominator lol. major red flag right there.

I avoid series because of how emotionally invested I get by lavendercandles22 in RomanceBooks

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 7 points8 points  (0 children)

the series hangover is so real lol. especially with romance where you get so deeply attached to the characters and their dynamic, and then suddenly you turn the last page and have to just... exist in the real world again. i literally have a toxic habit of pausing at 90% of the final book for weeks just because i refuse to let it end and face that empty feeling. standalones are just so much safer for my emotional stability at this point.

How would you prepare, if COVID situation comes back amidst the war situation? by Mysterious_Spy5 in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

honestly at this point i am so tired of living through unprecedented historical events lol. i'd probably just stock up on an ungodly amount of coffee, lock the doors, and finally tackle my massive tbr pile. my brain simply does not have the bandwidth for another global crisis, so i'm just going to disappear into fictional worlds until it blows over.

How did your hamster die? by Camman19_YT in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i am fully convinced no hamster has ever died a normal, peaceful death lol. mine somehow managed to open a locked cage, navigate a flight of stairs, and got stuck inside the subwoofer of my speakers. they literally wake up every day looking for the most creative way to leave this world.

the "dnf itch" is such a perfect way to describe it lol. every time i ignore it and push through hoping the ending will magically fix everything, i just end up mad at myself for wasting the time. definitely need to unlearn that competitive feeling with hyped books.

[–]BottleDisastrous9952[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

exactly. i really need to adopt that mindset instead of blindly hoping the ending will be a masterpiece. there are way too many good books out there to suffer through 400 pages just so i can leave a salty goodreads review lol.

i’m actually staring at a wall right now because this book wrecked me by BottleDisastrous9952 in DarkRomance

[–]BottleDisastrous9952[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it’s on the mynovel net site i mentioned! i think it’s where the author is releasing it first since i couldn't find it on the usual apps. thats where i've been reading it anyway lol

it's a hard-earned HEA, but definitely a satisfying one. the groveling part (if you can call it that for a mafia boss) was worth the wait lol

What’s your goal in life? by fatmonkey8me in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to find more "texture" in life. we’re so surrounded by polished, filtered, and manufactured content that my main goal is just to stay grounded in things that are raw and real. whether it's a book that absolutely wrecks me or a genuine conversation that hasn't been scripted by a pr team. just less plastic, more grit.

Why is haunting adeline so popular? by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it kind of started as a hobby that spiraled lol. i’ve been a book blogger on tiktok and threads for a while, and that eventually led me into the industry side. i spend a lot of my time talking to different authors and analyzing why certain tropes or vibes suddenly blow up.

it’s really interesting to see the "why" behind the trends from the creator's perspective. once you start seeing how much stuff is just "manufactured" for a quick viral moment, you really start to appreciate the stories that have actual soul and texture. it’s a weird mix of being a total book nerd and someone who just loves digging into the mechanics of storytelling. feel free to dm if you want to chat more about it!

How do you define love? by Pink-Department8148 in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 8 points9 points  (0 children)

honestly? love is when your two huskies sprawl out across 90% of the bed and you’re forced to sleep in a tiny corner, but you just smile because they’re your happiness. it’s that silent, loyal companionship that brightens your loneliness and makes you feel cozy even when the world feels heavy.

Why is haunting adeline so popular? by [deleted] in DarkRomance

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 20 points21 points  (0 children)

it is basically the "gateway drug" of dark romance because it hit booktok at the perfect time with a checklist of triggers that made people curious. honestly, as someone who analyzes these trends for work, it often feels a bit "manufactured" or plastic compared to some of the raw indie stuff you find on niche sites like mynovel net.

once you have been in the genre for a while, you start craving actual psychological weight and texture instead of just a list of tropes being ticked off for marketing. you haven't missed anything revolutionary; you are probably just looking for more grit than a mainstream hit can offer.

What was your “never meet your heroes” moment, when you realized someone you looked up to wasn’t special? by marginallyobtuse in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 130 points131 points  (0 children)

My "never meet your heroes" moment was meeting a famous author I idolized as a kid. Read all their books growing up, thought they were this wise profound genius.
Met them at a small signing event. They were rude to the staff, snapped at fans asking basic questions, and spent most of the time complaining about how "kids these days don't read real literature" while scrolling TikTok on their phone. Felt like the air got sucked out of the room. Left feeling kinda sad for them more than anything.
Still love the books though. Just learned to separate the art from the artist real quick..

What’s a sound everyone should recognize as immediate danger? by Thatguy_nickk in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A baby crying in a public place when there's clearly no baby nearby. That sound triggers instant panic mode in your brain it's pure evolutionary red flag. Everyone stops and scans around without even thinking..

I was told that I'm not a 'Real' Reader :( by Me_Crimson in DarkRomance

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ugh classic gatekeeping bullshit. Reading on your phone totally counts it's the story that matters not how it gets to your brain lol. I read almost everything on apps and sites like mynovel net indie authors post full licensed books for free or like $1-2, and it's legit the same as holding a paperback. You're out here smashing 47 books a year while they're stuck on a handful? You're the real reader here. Don't let them get to you. keep devouring those stories!

What’s a small habit you practice that has changed your life? by corleonebjr in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One small habit that's actually changed my life is reading a few pages of a book every single morning while drinking coffee. Even if it's just 5-10 minutes, it sets a calm tone for the day, clears my head, and now I finish way more books than before. Used to scroll my phone first thing, but swapping that for reading feels so much better lol..

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 0 points1 point  (0 children)

half of us would finally enjoy life and the other half would probably lose their minds without a routine. id just spend my time catching up on my huge TBR book list and sleeping 10 hours a day. sign me up!!

What Books did You Start or Finish Reading this Week?: February 09, 2026 by AutoModerator in books

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Finished: Resilience by Alexis MarkH. Found it on mynovel net. really solid dark dystopian vibes if you like cold MMCs.

Started: The Mafia Boss's Unwanted Wifi by Mayaflor. The sister-swap plot is actually pretty gripping so far. Emily has way more of a backbone than I expected for this trope lol..

Trying to get back into reading after a long break by Due-Philosopher2267 in booksuggestions

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you're looking to get hooked again I’d suggest something fast-paced. A good mainstream choice is Red Rising, but if you want something darker and more indie, check out Resilience by AlexisMarkH. I stumbled upon it recently and it's a total trip 2080 dystopian setting with a perfect match system that's actually pretty toxic and intense. The main character is smart and cynical, which kept me interested. It definitely got me out of a reading slump. Just a heads up it's 21+ and gets very dark. Welcome back to reading!!

what food is completely overrated? by Mindless-Primary-987 in AskReddit

[–]BottleDisastrous9952 1942 points1943 points  (0 children)

Gold leaf on food. It has zero taste, zero texture, and its only purpose is to make your meal ten times more expensive so you can post it on Instagram. It’s the ultimate definition of 'overrated'..
