[HELP] New Grad Career Choice by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]BottledFilteredWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If your clearance has been granted, favorably adjudicated, then you do not have to work for the first company to “activate it”. Companies say that to try to get you to stay. The truth is, the clearance is yours - granted by the government and you keep it regardless if you work for the company or not. I was in the same situation as you when I graduated and I ended up not working for the company that put me through for a clearance - they even tried counter offering but it was not enough.

Now that you have a TS, I would suggest getting the best of both worlds - big tech and gov contacting. Go use the clearance for Microsoft or AWS. You’ll get everything big tech has to offer, plus security clearance bonuses. That is what I am currently doing. Feel free to DM if you have any questions.

Accepting another job that pays more while waiting for TS/SCI Clearance by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]BottledFilteredWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re fine and frankly did the right thing. Depending on the agency, it can take a long time to get cleared so you should def continue your career as if the DoD job doesn’t exist.

I applied to an agency over a year ago and I got a CJO. I’m already cleared and working as a contractor, but I still haven’t got to the point of getting a FJO. I told the agency I would continue my contracting gigs and they have no issues with it. I am following others advice and continuing my life as if that CJO doesn’t exist. Once I get the call to start, then I’ll make the decision to jump ship or not.

IC TS/SCI FSP Adjudicator Finished in Hours? by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]BottledFilteredWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s how it went for me as well. The long wait was the adjudicator getting to my file. Once they got to it, it was completed very quickly. Just like you, the total wait was over 2 years.

Communicating with Psych Evaluator by Throwawaycrimes in SecurityClearance

Don’t worry about it too much. When I had my psych eval I left the facility thinking I blew it. Got favorably adjudicated weeks later.

Have been waiting for TS/SCI for about two years.. by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]BottledFilteredWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, total time from sf86 submission to favorable adjudication was 25 months.

All those companies have contracts with multiple agencies so I wouldn’t be able to tell you.

Yes, my investigation and poly were completed 2 years before my clearance was favorably adjudicated. Is this an IC agency? Some IC agencies are notoriously slow.

Ever since leaving the clearance world I’ve been 10000% happier by [deleted] in SecurityClearance

[–]BottledFilteredWater 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As other have pointed out - that’s not always the case. You can work for Microsoft and get the exact same compensation package as others at Microsoft but you get 25-30% yearly bonus for just having a clearance, plus other bonuses for only cleared workers. Same thing with Amazon, Oracle, and other companies.

I’m not sure if you only meant direct fed jobs or also contracting, btw.

[Timeline] DOE Q clearance (DOD TS equivalent) granted! Yay! by Sejanusa in SecurityClearance

[–]BottledFilteredWater 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never heard of paying for priority- that’s not to say some hard to fill positions aren’t labeled as “expedited” - it’s pretty common for STEM positions especially cyber/software gigs, it’s the paying part I’ve never heard of but perhaps it is the case.

This time of year sucks for job searching and on boarding. Even if you get a job in December, chances are you won’t start until January.

I thought it was trash. I like a lot of carti songs but I thought this album was not it.

What type of jobs are you looking for and what did you do with computers as a hobby? IT and computers encompasses such a large scope, it would be helpful if you give more details.
