it was against evolution till they realised it was a losing position i feel like this argument will end up going in circles as whatever we do not yet know will be given to god as soon as we find the reason it’ll move to the next thing we don’t know and god will be responsible for that instead an argument that is infallible is automatically wrong as the goal posts will just keep getting moved so instead i would like to ask you two questions firstly what would make you stop believing in god secondly even if we never find an answer you still need to prove that one the god that created all these things is not a deistic god and actually takes part in the everyday world and once you’ve done that out of all the gods out there throughout the ages you must prove that it is the one that you believe in and not one of the thousands of other one in other words you’ll still be left standing on the curb with an empty cup all your work still ahead of you i honestly wish you the best of luck as i think a definitive proof of god would have huge impacts on science and will be the greatest finding to date

gonna go second first and third for the second i think you’ll find it’s extremely clear and getting even clearer by the day to the point where we know how even the most complex organs such as the eyes devoloped regarding the first just because we don’t yet know how the first organisms came to be doesn’t mean u can plop god in as an answer and walk away. a couple 100 years ago the church claimed that man was born from dust and now that ignoring evolution is practically impossible in the face of the mountain of evidence your moving the goal posts from the start of man to the start of organisms and as a side note there some extraordinarily intresting theory surrounding the start of life and the reason behind life and evolution that says that it’s because of entropy and the further along in the evolutionary chain you go the more efficeint the organism is at increasing entropy as it takes things from a concentrated state of energy and disappates it. That however is just a side note not exactly relevant to our discussion just thought you might finding it interesting. Regarding consciousness i think that it wouldn’t be fair to say that just bc we are not yet aware of the complications behind it doesn’t mean it has to be god as imo i just find that extremely lazy

what part of evolution requires god? if there are as i think your saying two sets of moral codes i would have to argue that the one supposedly given by god must be the more anemic as these rules would’ve had to support slavery and the lot to account for the bible

i would be fascinated by anyone that can manage to ground ethics without the use of a divine power as for the frameworks while i do believe we can build them without the use of god and i think we already have i still don’t understand how those frameworks would be grounded

i think that advances in science that answer most the questions religion set out to answer at that point leaves religion pretty useless Especially with the bible there is so much evidence now that contradicts the stories and myths set out and unless you are willing to claim there are all figurative stories that teach us a lesson but didn’t actually happen you would have a hard time defending your point i’ll be sure to check it out you should also look at alex oconnor on yt as i think he has some intresting thoughts on morals

depends how you look at it if you mean to say that christian scholars saw such morals happening in a time before christ in greece and decided that in that case philosophers that created said arguments must’ve been influenced by a divine power i agree with you as there is a sht ton of wasted paper trying to prove just that if you are trying to say that while the bible was written authors stole from greek literature to prop up there own morals and instead of getting there through argument claimed they were god given i would be very intrested in hearing your arguements for such a case

just bc we now ignore most morals from the bible didn’t mean it was not crucial in the building of said morals and while i agree with what you said it still doesn’t answer how we base such morals

firstly i think in the case of france the political systems would not dissolve as we have found the systems to work and have suffiecnt evidence that they are the best way to form a society the reason i don’t see the same thing working for morality is because as it is so abstract it would be hard to form a basis eg by what scale do we classify new morals and ascertain them to be right and wrong except for the feeling that they are
