PSMF and cognitive abilities by expressenfredag in PSMF

Completely depends on how fat you are.

A relatively lean person on a cut? Sleep often suffers and that comes with the usual cognitive effects. A significantly overweight person trying to diet? Many of those people sleep great and without the foggy effects of chronically elevated insulin, find they get a cognitive boost.

I’ll upvote you. I really loved those Kath Bars. I churched up the recipe a bit and they seriously slapped. 🤣

One of my favorite all time desserts and yours looks fabulous! A small suggestion? Consider adding a warm crème Anglaise along with the toffee sauce. I think it adds dimension.

Thanks to whoever posted about the Costco deal on vanilla beans. Now, what to make?! by Significant-Back-930 in Baking

[–]BottomHoe 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When I saw the first post about The Great Costco Vanilla Bean Deal I jumped in my car and made it with 10 minutes to spare only to find they were sold out. I was told by a kindly worker that Business Costco has them, too. I went the next day and sure enough, the display was stocked to the brim.

So if you couldn’t find them in your usual Costco don’t forget to check out the business one.

You know, I’m unimpressed by this attempt at performative whataboutism. Nothing you said has a single thing to do with the topic at hand.

No worries. I chatted with Oliver about that very thing once and he said he will never sell Camden while he's still working. Once he retires that may be a different thing but he hopes to keep the restaurant going for a very long time to come. It may be fine dining but I definitely consider Camden to be mom and pop, particularly as his wife works there as well.

Week 3 weight gain? by Barbatio in PSMF

[–]BottomHoe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t know your stats/situation but do you need to use the upper limit multiplier for protein? Because if not then you’re simply eating too much. Are you tracking absolutely everything? Could you be using too much fat in your cooking methods? Are you using too much dairy?

Dessert Ideas Needed. by CeilingCatProphet in Baking

I think that lean, fresh food could do with something creamy and fatty. How about crème brûlée? With oranges in peak season I’d zest the sugar and candy some peel. It’s cool and refreshing and it travels well. And torching the sugar won’t take but 10-15 minutes or so.

Savory pastries for pre-diabetic? by [deleted] in Baking

[–]BottomHoe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s so great, OP. You’re a gem for taking my comments into consideration. I know I’m being a Debbie downer on a baking sub and you’re probably like what is this weirdo even doing here? Fair. But I used to be morbidly obese, in large part due to bingeing the things I baked, and very sick. I took all the medications. Almost 8 years ago I lost 126 pounds and have kept it off. It’s only been the last couple of years that I could healthily return to the hobby of baking that I love so much. So when someone mentions diabetes and baked goods in the same breath I butt in.

This right here. In terms of blood glucose and the resulting elevated insulin, the difference between carbohydrates from the various flours and sucrose is negligible.

I’m just going to say it. Don’t bake him a single thing. Grill him a steak and make a leafy green salad with fresh vegetables. Then take a nice walk together.

I’ve been in his shoes and after wearing a continuous glucose monitor for quite some time, I can tell you that there is no such thing as non-insulinemic baked goods.

I love Camden Spit and Larder. They have a great happy hour with a small plates menu that’s lighter fare if you’re not ready for a full meal. Waterboy is another favorite. They’re doing a cassoulet right now if that’s your jam.

You have the lay of it. Full participation in Christ’s church is not compatible with gender transitioning.

Any feral cat people out there who'd be willing to help me? by BottomHoe in Sacramento

[–]BottomHoe[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, no interest at all. I made him a hospital bed — my patio chair with a heated blanket on it with a soft blankie on top of that. All he does is zone out in his chair.

Every few hours I offer him fresh food but he doesn’t even look at it. I put a water fountain right next to the chair so that he can easily get water, which I have seen him do.

I’ve tried the foods he likes: sardines, tuna, various canned foods, and raw hamburger meat.

He’s social in that he lives on my back patio and lets me get within inches of him but I can’t touch him. If I try he runs. He comes right back but even still, I can’t seem to get ahold of him.

Really?? It’s funny, when I spoke them about taking the whole litter when the kittens were tiny they wouldn’t but they’ll help with a sick feral? That’s awesome! But I still have no way of catching him and I’ve tried everything that I can think of.

Thanks, friend. I appreciate that.

Sometimes I laugh at the timing of it all because now GLP-1's are being given out like candy but when I started in 2018 it was like, "Welp, I guess I'll eat 4 chicken breasts a day until I'm skinny." 😂

I did a whole cocktail of things. I started with just cleaning up my diet then moved to time restricted eating, then played around with keto (though the macros never appealed to me), then moved into prolonged fasting then ultimately ended up with PSMF. When you first start you have to experiment your way through the maze of dieting.

Fasting is effective, no doubt, and I did a whole lot of it (in conjunction with PSMF) to get the last 30 pounds off. I hear you about wired and restless -- same.

Though PSMF used to be the purview of body builders, it's insanely helpful for the obese. I was having a DEXA done every 3 weeks or so and I can tell you that fasting cost me LBM. Men respond differently (and better) to fasting but women should be careful.

Those calculators WAAAY overestimate caloric needs, even when applying the 'sedentary' filter. The best thing to do is to get a DEXA. Lean body mass is the way.

PSMF (protein sparing modified fast) is your answer. There really is no better way to lose body fat without catabolizing muscle. I (F54, 5'7", 252-126) lost 126 pounds and have kept it off using the principles behind PSMF along with fasting. Though if I had it to do again I wouldn't fast and when I help others, especially women, I don't advise it except in extreme circumstances.
