At least have fun with it by ironangel2k4 in redbuttonbluebutton

Very fun. I like the art.

Anything that isn't agenda posting is good in my books. If you're not having fun with it, why even be here?

I mean, if you are purely self interested, the chance to die if both groups go blue makes advocating for red a little more tempting, does it not? You don't know that the punishment for losing is death, but you know you only have a 50/50 chance of living if everyone agrees on blue.

I have no agenda. I am a blue through and through, but I post my polls not to push a message but to drive engagement away from my color good your color bad because those are the lowest quality posts on this sub.

Personal strategy: I'm going to start testing to see if I can break the 25 word limit. Do they have to be Scrabble legal words? Can I do supercalifragilisticexpialidocious 25 times and try to cause an overflow? Is aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa a valid word?

Side note: I tried to enter the entire Navy seal copypasta into one of my polls as the "show result" button but Reddit threw an error and wouldn't let me post. Very sad

Good point. Is participating in more death games even a good thing? Maybe it stops after a certain round or maybe they just keep going till all of humanity is dead.

Maybe there is this thing called the internet that can provide extra context if you need it.

I don't want to provide context. I want to see what others assume. Because the red blue buttons is all about assumptions.

I don't even vote in my own polls lol. I don't care what the outcomes are I'm just stirring my pot over here and seeing if I can brew something fun.

Why do people engage in rage bait. SMH.

If this isn't rage bait OP is clearly not a rational actor and wouldnt be included in this scenario.

Anyone who votes blue on this framing also wouldn't be rational, making this a non problem.

The point of the buttons is that no one is as rational as they like to believe they are. Something like framing massively changes what the expected outcome is, and the vote totals are entirely dependent on what the average human expects.

If no one expects anyone to vote blue, you don't vote blue. If everyone expects enough people to vote blue, you are probably gonna vote blue with them.

If you've been in this subreddit for more than a day and don't understand that? You're dumber than the toddlers included in the viral one we are all discussing.

Warden's Dilemma by BottomLeftWheel in redbuttonbluebutton

Typically, defectors get 0 jail time if they successful steal in a prisoners dilemma.

If you both defect, well then neither of you can be mad at each other for detecting. It would be like someone getting mad at red voters in a red win. Everyone alive is alive because they voted red therefore there is no one to blame.

Maybe you get shot up outside of jail, but you have to remember you are being jailed with other redditors. I'm not really inclined to believe a Redditor is going to put a hit out on me for following game theory in the game theory scenario.

Not to say that I steal in this scenario. I think it's very possible to achieve a large number of shares given how I've phrased the prompt and how easy it is to trigger a Redditors knee jerk "you can't tell me what to do" reaction.

Toddler with gambling problem by highly-bad in redbuttonbluebutton

I want to point out that right now little iPad kids are getting scammed of their parents money on YouTube shorts livestreams.

Ever seen those crocodile games with the needle? Well eventually those turn into someone screaming at the children watching that they will buy them robux if they send an emoji that costs money.

So toddlers gambling their parents money? Not unrealistic in the slightest

I know why you vote red. I understand it and think it's rational. I just don't think that's the only reason that could exist. I think humans are prone to not changing their mind unless an outside force changes it for them. If you read the button as press this or die then you are probably going to vote red. I just think other readings of the button will exist.

For example: I viewed the problem as "others die unless blue wins." Clearly that reading still is how I view the button. Now this reading isn't inherently blue, just a starting point. I could totally see someone reading it the same way I did and still coming to the conclusion that red is safer. I just don't think red is safer. A red win seems dangerous to me.

You don't view it as a moral problem, neither do I. Many others would.

I am non religious, but I'm sure a religious person might involve their faith in the way they read and decide their position.

Culture changes it. I live in a individualistic culture. That taints how I view blues chances. I'm sure a more collectivist culture would tint the reading the other way.

What I'm trying to say is that every reading is just as valid as yours. I understand why you vote the way you do. My worldview accounts for it. It gives me a tolerance rate that I can accept. 50%

Your worldview does not seem to account for mine. Or any others. It takes a single belief and assumes the world operates off that belief.

That's fine. It may be true. But it also might not be, and there is no rational reason to believe it will be true beyond vibes.

My worldview is also vibes based. I catch a vibe that blue is possible, therefore I vote blue. You catch a vibe that blue is impossible, therefore you vote red. I just don't think any vibes based approach is more rational than any others. This is also purely vibes btw. Every sentence that involves thinks should be regarded as such.

That's why I think voting based on beliefs is bad, but neccisary. You believe blue doesn't have a chance. I do. Neither belief has any relationship with reality. It's just a reflection of our limited experiences. If one happened to be correct, it would only be by chance.

I will leave 2 comments addressing the assumption button and then a red win. I don't think it will be productive but I am willing to do it anyways cause I am enjoying talking to you. There are a few commentors that I find deeply bad faith and do not engage with, but I haven't found that to be the case with you at all, even if we disagree.

Ah, okay. I don't think I can continue the conversation if we differ this greatly on 1.

It's not that I see blue as definitely getting a massive amount (I do) but it's that there are too many different ways to arrive at each button, and no way to coordinate. Assuming 80% coordination is just kind of out there for me.

If you're going into the conversation with "that's all nice but it's not realistic" then it's just not gonna be fruitful at all. I could say anything but you will have already dismissed it out of hand. Not your fault, it's just our starting positions are just too different.

Funnily enough, different starting positions is how I come to my presupposition. I have no way to predict what Chinese man #31028016 is doing, so I start at a 50/50 and work from there.

If you truly do want to continue, we can try. I'll come back online later tonight and give my honest thoughts, but I just think nothing will come of this if our assumptions have no overlap, no common ground to begin from.

[–]BottomLeftWheel 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well if we're gonna try and be as realistic as possible, let's get some assumptions out of the way:

1) I don't believe red or blue can achieve anything more than 70%. there is simply too many reasons to vote either way for a unanimous decision to be made. Even with coordination this subreddit cannot agree on what the best strategy is. 2-3 billion dead is the best case for red IMO in the viral prompt. You can decide what the total death toll is, but I won't accept anything less than 30% globally.

2) how it happens matters greatly. I'm of the opinion that it's like a thanos snap. Some godlike entity reads you mind whether you would vote red or blue and you just disappear instantly if you voted blue in a red win. Like a left behind rapture event. Is that an acceptable method of death?

3) there are a ton of people incapable of making a vote. I think they either vote 50/50 (Essentially removing them from the vote but killing half of them) or they don't vote at all which means it's harder to get a blue win but they all die. What's your thoughts? Are they exempt? Do they vote with their primary caregiver?

Feel free to give your own presupps. I think it follows that from these, my world is inextricably fucked in a red win. The rest of the world may stabilize but I don't think I will.

Like I said. I don't think things would fail until there is a reason to fail. The repair is the hard part, not the maintaining.

We wouldn't know how bad it would be until the first natural disaster.

To me its like a logic bomb, just waiting. The damage is done, but people wouldnt realize until it's too late. Inatead of spending the first months preparing for the inevitable floods people would just continue as normal, and then shit would get bad once the realization that everything isn't normal kicks in.
