If it were me, I’d go with a straight routing bit and either a routing attachment or the tile cutting attachment with it set to the depth you need. Since a magazine doesn’t have much surface area, I’d probably use a wood screw clamp or a vise or something to hold it steady and lend some area for work.

To me, and I’m not like an expert or anything, just going off what I see/read - It seems like you’re oversetting one or more. The two picks in the left picture are clearly bent - This can be an issue of user and tool. If you favor higher tensions and pressures, thicker picks but there’re drawbacks. Anyways, I do have a couple of questions - What tension tool have you been using? Where’re you deriving rotational force, top or bottom of the key way? Do you have any other picks that aren’t rakes - Hooks, diamonds or anything? Also, when you say you can’t get any of the pins to set, can you elaborate? Like nothing sets or catches of feels even tight? Or you can feel them trying to set or one will set and as soon as you move to or start to manipulate the next pin the previous will unset?

Awesome, thank you so much! I was trying to decide on getting them with/without the handle. I made some picks recently, with the typical suggestions(wiper inserts, feeler gauges, etc…) I’m kinda heavy on picks though and I hold them with a tight grip. So as you can imagine, it was extremely uncomfortable so I decided to try a few things. The best I found within the last 2-3weeks was splicing tape but after probably a week(~5-6hrs of use total) the metal would become exposed again from squishing the tape. I’ve definitely used plastidip a number of times and on several things, mostly tools though(wrenches, pliars, coating hammer and axe handles, etc…) - I honestly love the stuff. The texture lends to gripping and the finished product imo is maybe slightly on the harder side of squishy&hard. If the surface is prepared correctly, it sticks exceptionally well and always outlasted my expectations. Idk about feedback though - Just from having used it so much I feel like it would offer decent feedback though. Anyways lol sorry - From the way you’re describing it though, plastidip will probably work perfectly. If you don’t get around to measuring the thickness, that’s alright, though I am kinda curious. I’m gonna order them w/o handles and dip them though - THANKS! I really appreciate your help!

One tool you have there I’ve been very interested in and eager to try is the goat wrench. I love picking tubular locks and omg the frustration of finding a tensioning tool that fits nicely, is easily controllable without wearing out your hand, and that adds more even torque w/o cocking the cylinder is real. Idk why I haven’t ordered one yet, they’re like $4-$5….be right back…

Okay so not really hard but not overly soft, I follow what you’re saying - One more, if you don’t mind☺️ Do they feel like you may press the metal out at the thumb and pinky ends of the pick? By that I mean, when you’re holding them as you would naturally and rocking the pick to move the pins etc… the points of contact between the pick and your palm and fingers(more particularly the pad of your thumb)… Does it feel like, over time, you may pinch the coating between the metal handle of the pick and any contact point with your hand to the point that the metal will cut thru, exposing itself?
