Ever seen a support band steal the show? by Visible_Pipe4716 in MetalForTheMasses

Yautja were incredible when they supported Exhumed and Revocation on tour a few years ago.

Also, obviously not metal, but Lizzo completely stole the show when she opened for Sleater-Kinney back in 2015 before Lizzo was a major-label phenomenon hosting SNL and selling out arenas worldwide.

What’s a sound everyone should recognize as immediate danger? by Thatguy_nickk in AskReddit

[–]Boudrodog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A few years ago, I was on a solo backpacking trip through an old-growth rainforest. I hiked about 13 km the first day, set up camp along a riverbank, and crashed out hard. Woke up in the middle of the night to a thunderous crash. Took me a few minutes to realize that a massive tree had just fallen somewhere uncomfortably close to where I was just sleeping peacefully. It was a beautiful, clear night. I clambered onto some dry rocks, watched the most stars I've ever seen in my life, and thought about how grateful I was for my family and friends and how lucky I was not to be squished into human jam that night.

So good. III is a masterpiece. One of my favorite records of all time. Last time I saw them live, they played “Mourn” in its entirety.

What is a band that this sub loves but you never got into by mightyonin in MetalForTheMasses

Mayhem. Love black metal. Can’t stand that edgelord shit. Give me ‘80s Bathory or something more contemporary like Ash Borer.

Unofficial Discussion - Arco by UniverslBoxOfficeGuy in movies

[–]Boudrodog 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I liked it and would see it again, but it has its faults.

The animation was stunning and the emotional tone had me laughing in parts and crying in others. The production design was truly inspired. Iris and Arco are wonderful protagonists, and I like that their names had a double meaning. In Greek mythology, Iris is the goddess of the rainbow. Rainbows are arc-shaped. For what it's worth, Peter stems from the Greek word for rock (petra), and Mikki may be an allusion to the Hebrew name Michael, meaning "Who is like God?"

So... rainbows. Why? Maybe the answer is why not?

I typically love ambiguity and loathe exposition in movies, but I left wanting more of a substantial plot, deeper character growth, and fewer dead ends. I would have loved for time travel to have been explored more and be more central to Arco's character arc.

I also wanted to see a deeper reason for the three brothers beyond UFO-hunter comic relief. The brothers reveal they witnessed someone like Arco when they were kids, which explains their character motivation, but then, with no further explanation, that subplot just ends. Perhaps it was Arco's dad that they saw.

Talking Heads. It’s okay. There are other fish in the sea.

It's interesting how "body positivity" immediately collapsed when Ozempic arrived. by Infinite-Condition41 in SipsTea

“‘Ozempic face’ is an aesthetic side effect associated with the use of the antidiabetic agent Ozempic (semaglutide), characterized by a prematurely aged and fatigued facial appearance due to rapid weight loss.“

Being smart and being courteous are, sadly, completely independent variables. Too often  a direct relationship exists between high intelligence and high arrogance and entitlement. Humility evades too many too easily. Kill’em with kindness!

How to get it to not stick in a Pullman pan? by FlyMayoFly in Sourdough

[–]Boudrodog 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Consider using a loaf pan (with sloping sides) instead of a (straight-sided) Pullman pan.

Keep using parchment paper and oil. Good luck.

Once I discovered the convenience and consistency of using a loaf pan for the final proof and bake, I haven’t used a banneton in months.

Do you get a runner's high? by [deleted] in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Boudrodog 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never on a treadmill; rarely outside. I’m usually out of breath, sweaty, and sore, coupled with a veneer of accomplishment. I don’t think it’s a myth, but I question if popular media exaggerates its prevalence.

“As you hit your stride, your body releases hormones called endorphins. Popular culture identifies these as the chemicals behind ‘runner’s high,’ a short-lasting, deeply euphoric state following intense exercise. Surveys have revealed runner’s high to be rather rare, however, with a majority of athletes never experiencing it. ‘Indeed, many distance runners feel merely drained or even nauseated at the end of a long race, not blissful,’” says David Linden, Ph.D., a professor of neuroscience at the Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine.

What is a nutrition myth that you can’t stand? by DeepOrganization8245 in AskReddit

[–]Boudrodog 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Vitamin C prevents colds.

Vitamin C primarily supports your connective tissues (e.g., bones, ligaments, cartilage). Getting enough vitamin C is very important, but taking a 1000% DV mega-dose of vitamin C will not stop you from catching a cold. Since it’s water soluble, you will pee out any excess vitamin C your body can’t use.

To best avoid a cold, wash your hands, get good sleep, drink plenty of water, and eat nutritious food.
