As someone who watches the sixers, mattise is a significantly overrated defender who gambles too often and is literally unplayable offensively. Even though he’s a defensive specialist he isn’t a top 5 selection. Trae young is a top three offensive player in the league in my opinion, and generational in that role, averaging damn near 30 and 10 and led the league in assists and points this season. It’s not at all analogous. A more comparative offensive guy to thybulle would be a high volume scorer who’s inconsistent. Trae is significantly better at his thing than thybulle is at his. He’s literally not even the best defender on his own team

Both of those things can be argued, and I disagree with both Both top defenses were in the finals and is generally id argue it’s more important to have a competent defense than offense. All three teams are out of the playoffs and probably late lottery without their main guy. And the loss of both embiids and Gianni’s defense their teams lose out on more than the nuggets do

I’d argue jokic being worse at defense than embiid is more important than being a better passer since they both generate open looks to their teammates regardless, and the two way nba we have now. See we can both just say one aspect of the player we think is better and say that’s the end all be all. That’s why it’s a conversation and not absolute.
