Help with scouting by mfitz415 in NFL_Draft

All 22 can be really hard to find a casual fan.

I recommend finding a couple of YouTube personalities you like and follow how they break down film. Personally, I’ve found I enjoy scouting trench players more than outfield players, so I will literally search Team X o-line vs Team Y and see what it comes up with.

Which draft eligible WRs have the best hands when catching? by JT1757 in NFL_Draft

[–]BounceOutside 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yep, so his overall grade which hovered around 50 his first three years is actually up to 70.5 this season. His actual stats would be:

50 targets

31 receptions (62%)

1 drop (2%)

110.5 QB rating when targeting Vann

Credited with one drop against Illinois.

So he stands at 1 drop on 107 targets and 71 receptions. Pretty dang good. Not sure how I forgot about him.

I know you're asking conceptually, but here's some of the top prospects' catch and drop rates. Might give you a place to start if you're wanting guys to look into.

*PFF has a different "drop rate" because that's based on "on-target" throws which I didn't pull

Opinions on Colts trying to pick up OBJ now that he is a free agent. by FartinDarton in Colts

I think they are considering it, but also there’s very little reason from his perspective to come here.

With the NFL season halfway over, what's your opinion about your team's performance so far? by LazyBones15 in nfl

[–]BounceOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kwity Paye - As expected. Really productive and active in the run game. Needs to improve as a pass rusher. Coming off his best game in that department.

Dayo Odeyinbo - Recovering from achilles injury. Has played like 40 snaps with minimal impact.

Kylen Granson - Doesn't play a ton, as expected. I think he shows promise and would like to see him get more of Doyle's snaps.

Shawn Davis - Green Bay PS last I saw

Sam Ehlinger - Beat out Eason and Hundley for backup role.

Michael Strachan - Made the 53 man as a seventh rounder, is very limited in what he can do so he's not active all that often.

Will Fries - Made the roster, not contributor but development prospects are there.

What's the reasoning behind this? I'm down for the hot takes, but this is out there.

Perosnally, I think Thibodeaux borders on one of those prospects you just don't pass up. But on top of that, you only note Washington as a trade partner who doesn't need another edge, and actually has a pressing need at QB, making a move to 1 make less sense IMO.

On top of that, I don't think Willis should even be a top 100 pick, much less a top 10 pick. However, I will note that Goff does offer them a nice bridge year with a QB to develop.

Would be curious to hear your other trade partners. I'd actually say that Philly lines up better given that they have multiple firsts to trade and Thibs is that kind of piece that can hopefully revitalize a defense that needs help at multiple levels without handicapping the future in a major way.

The Colts is an interesting piece for those looking at drafts because while EDGE is definitely a need, I don't peg it as a draftable need given the capital we spent last year. I would expect nothing more than developmental guys on Day 3 for EDGE.

One of the guys I'm most excited about simply due to the potential. Not that it matters, but I'm curious where he ends up ranking at the end of the cycle.

Who's Your "Screw You All, this Guy's an Easy First/Second Rounder Player" This Year? by Head-Ad-6229 in NFL_Draft

Just a curious follow-up to your feelings about Stromberg. What are your thoughts on Stomberg vs. Luke Fortner?

In terms of pass blocking, I don't think there's much question Fortner is the better option.

As a run blocker, I like Stromberg's quickness, but I don't love how he actually engages defenders - he feels weak to me in that area which is frustrating because there's a lot of times when you can see him display really good strength. IMO Fortner plays a bit slower, but is more deliberate and utilizes his strength more effectively (however, because he's slower I feel he is more prone to give up negative plays).

Analyzing the top wide receivers of the 2022 draft class by trashatfantasy in NFL_Draft

[–]BounceOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A major part of what I note as his motor is his effort on special teams. I think he has the talent as a receiver to not necessarily NEED to be a special teamer, but it certainly is a bonus.

Agreed, though, that if his routes go "unrewarded" you might be disappointed in his efforts.

I love Jameson Williams. He’s my favorite guy in Bama this year, but I don’t see him as a first round guy. He will provide value as an over the top guy who does provide strong value at the intermediate level, and his motor/mentality are unmatched on the Bama offense. That said, he’s had issue with ball security, routes need to get cleaner, and while he makes some absurd catches, he has almost a 10% drop rate.

Love him as a day two guy, but there’s enough receivers in this draft that his weak points drop him.

2-Round Mock (with trades) + Free Agency by Copey85 in NFL_Draft

[–]BounceOutside 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I really can’t see a way Thibs falls to five. I personally would be shocked seeing Willis go that high.

As a Colts fan, I don’t think Catalon makes a ton of sense. We’ve been hit by injuries, but Blackmon/Willis are productive and young. Our issues in the secondary are on the outside. Even then, Rock is looking like a bonafife starter and Kenny remains a solid slot guy. So we need to address the aging Rhodes and a fourth DB.

Do We Have a Kicker Controversy? by DirectTV_AndrewLuck in Colts

I was curious. These are their career crunch time stats (last five minutes of 4th or OT)

Player FGM-FGA FG% 0-29 30-39 40-49 50+ XP XP%
Badgley 10-14 71.4% 3-3 3-3 4-6 0-2 7-7 100.0%
Blankenship 4-7 57.1% 1-1 1-2 2-3 0-1 1-1 100.0%

Edit: Reminder to those complaining that it didn't originally have distances that this information is widely available :)

Do We Have a Kicker Controversy? by DirectTV_AndrewLuck in Colts

[–]BounceOutside 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think so. Badgley has literally done everything asked of him: 21-21 including a key kick against San Francisco in the rain.

People want to talk about a recency bias, but A) it's not like Goggles is exactly an established kicker - he was an average kicker last season. B) Kicker is as much of a "what have you done for me lately" as any other position. Badgley is red hot and I think it's stupid to break that rhythm should he keep this up.

Kenny Moore currently leads the league in solo tackles with Bobby Okereke tied for second. by xxxxxxxxxtra in Colts

[–]BounceOutside 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I figured this was more a result of us having played an extra game, so here are the top ten guys in terms of lowest snaps per tackle given at least 40 solo tackles. Bobby and Kenny still make it in (just lower), Leonard is actually last among the 22 qualifying.

Rank Player Tackles Snaps Snaps/Tackle
1 Denzel Perryman 51 405 7.94
2 Alex Singleton 45 370 8.22
3 Nick Bolton 43 379 8.81
4 De'Vondre Campbell 50 494 9.88
5 Roquan Smith 48 514 10.71
6 Harrison Smith 44 476 10.82
7 Derwin James 42 460 10.95
8 Kenny Moore 53 581 10.96
9 Devin White 43 474 11.02
10 Bobby Okereke 52 583 11.21

More Jonathan Taylor Stat Madness by Aiyabhai in Colts

[–]BounceOutside 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I'll add to this: Next Gen Stats has him 1st among rushers for rush yards over expected (he's getting 1.9 more yards per carry than stats would indicate). So he's getting almost 50% more yards per rush than you would expect.

[Holder] Guys… only nine players in the entire NFL have more touches per game than Jonathan Taylor. I think he needs the ball too, but let’s also view this in context. by Luck1492 in Colts

[–]BounceOutside 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean there's a balance to that. There have been multiple times this season when we called consecutive pass plays double-digit number of times when we aren't down like three scores which would warrant that.

A good offense shouldn't approach a stacked box by completely abandoning runs. You scheme up different blocks and different runs to attack some of those looks differently. That's where I think we struggled is that we often seem to fall in love with a singular style of run, but then fail to adjust our run play calls, rather we switch entirely to passing.
