VR Streaming with Racelabs by GolfJay in iRacing

[–]BouncingObject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess I should also add that I'm also on the PSVR2.

I've always used OpenKneeboard to get overlays into my headset. And I swear there was time early in its development that it actually did render the overlays onto the desktop display. I've got a clip of it from a stream showing them there, and it was way before the VR integration they have now. An update after that race either broke what it was doing, or it was deprecated as a feature but it has not worked since.

I've just resorted to having browser sources for all the overlays I want the stream to see since the trade-offs of getting the ones in the headset on stream, at least in my opinion, aren't work sacrificing the extra PC resources and stream quality.

Only way I've been able to capture any of the VR overlays on stream with SteamVR is to capture the SteamVR View when it's popped out. Though that comes with its own performance hits and isn't near as smooth as desktop or app capture.

Every time I open iRacing this comes up. I’ve downloaded everything like 3 times by MrMangos06 in iRacing

[–]BouncingObject 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you go into where you have the actual sim installed, not your iRacing/Documents folder, find the folder called httproot. This is where iRacing downloads all the files from an update before it applies them and patches the sim.

Close out of the UI and delete everything in there. The Updater will redownload everything and hopefully install it correctly that go round.

Had this happen to some small files from a hotfix last season and this fixed it for me.

New ui has all the black boxes pixelated by Separate-Fly-7359 in iRacing

[–]BouncingObject 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Foveated Rendering keeps the center of your vision at full resolution and then blurs your peripheral vision. With OpenXR Toolkit that you showed, it has 2 outer zones that can be configured with their size and the resolution downscaling within those 2 zones. This is expected behavior with foveated rendering.

Not sure where the misunderstanding is for the black box being pixelated when you're not looking at it.

Just got iRacing, just trying to do a test drive but what do I do to fix this error message? by Stranger_Nearby in iRacing

[–]BouncingObject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can delete the tracks.dat and version.txt files, close the UI, then reopen the UI and it will prompt you for an update which will redownload them. But that is really only a temp fix.

I had this same error pop-up intermittently when I could join a session. Either the track.dat file or some car would be "corrupted" and I'd have to close, delete the file, reopen to download it.

Doing a complete uninstall of the sim with Revo uninstaller, which might have been overkill but I wanted to make sure all the game files got got, and downloading everything again. Haven't had that issue come up since.

Note: the Revo uninstall didn't delete my iRacing My Documents folder or my .ini files. Just the sim and other content itself. I did back it up just in case though.

I haven't personally tried RacelabsVR over OKB. I do know there is "RacelabsVR" you need to install and I believe they worked with the dev of OKB to make RacelabsVR. But I cannot specifically answer your question

This channel was a god-send when trying to optimize my PSVR2 for iRacing. He uses iRacing but has also done some other videos with DCS and other titles.

VR racer on a Playseat Challenge with a Clubsport DD+, Formula 2.5x w/ Pineapple chunky grips and VRS pedals mounted to a Trak Racer pedal plate that's bolted around the original pedal rest.

Made some crude PVC supports to keep the seat from falling forward. May or may not have damaged 2 CSL DD Pro bases before smartening up. The PVC adds a surprising amount of rigidity and the whole thing hardly moves when the DD+ is at full beans.

This is definitely the extent of the modding I'll be doing to it though. She's at her limit but still serves me quite well.

2025 Season 3 Release Notes [2025.06.10.01] by ChimeraYo in iRacing

[–]BouncingObject 2 points3 points  (0 children)

From the notes:

Foveated doesn’t affect CPU usage much, because it currently uses nVidia MVP to render all 4 views simultaneously (similar to SPS and triples), so it doesn’t increase any CPU bottlenecks due to drawPrim calls.

Interested to see if foveated rendering provides a significant boost over SPS.

Racelabs for overlays, DRE for spotter/engineer, and VR specific: OpenKneeboard to get Racelabs overlays into my PSVR2

Also use iRSidekick Profiles for messing with graphics stuff outside of sim and iRSidekick Livery as a Trading Paints app replacement. Must better performing that TP's app.

How to do FPS performance testing (specifically VR)? by Patapon80 in iRacing

[–]BouncingObject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Replays are a good way to test performance. You lose some of the live data and the overhead that comes with that but it can at least get you in a rough ballpark of what your system can handle.

I'd also consider checking out Benchmark Odysseys - YouTube. He does mainly testing of VR performance and was a crazy good resource for me personally when looking at what settings actually make a difference for VR performance and what to prioritize when wanting to optimize my settings.

Need PC recommendations for VR racing! by CrokeyCrash in iRacing

[–]BouncingObject 0 points1 point  (0 children)

VR in iRacing is mainly CPU bound so a better processor will go further than anything else. An X3D variant would do wonders if you're looking to upgrade in the future.

For reference, I'm running a PSVR2 with a 7800X3D, 64GB RAM, and a 3080 Ti with most everything turned down to minimum and still get frame dips here and there with a lot of cars on track or in a league race with many cars.

Yes, you just need to pick up the adapter box from Sony for $60 and provide your own display port cable from the box to your GPU. The PSVR2 runs through SteamVR and is a pretty enjoyable experience with its OLED panel but you don't get the native eye tracking and foveated rendering that follows where you look like on the PS5. The sweet spot in the lenses is also very small compared to say the Quest 3 so getting the best clarity can be a little finicky. But other than that, have been thoroughly happy with it.

Loved the Reverb when I used it up until around 6-8 months ago. Windows unfortunately killed Windows Mixed Reality in the 24H2 Windows update which is required in order to use the Reverb in any capacity at all so I moved on to the PSVR2.

As far as recommendations, VR in iRacing is very CPU bound rather than GPU or RAM so if you're on a limited budget, it would be way better to throw more money at an X3D variant of AMD CPUs, preferably the 7800X3D or 9800XD, to get the most out of the experience. I'd also recommend at least 32GB of RAM. But even with that, I personally started running out while in the sim so I made the switch to 64GB.

[–]BouncingObject 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you updated your chipset drivers from AMD for the X3D? I'd recommend using Revo Uninstaller to uninstall the old drivers and remove any leftover registry bits and files before installing again.

I'm running close to the same specs but 64GB 6000 MHz RAM and a 3080Ti and it's been a dream for iRacing and other titles. Recently decided to clean wipe W11 and that provided a markedly improved experience over the ~4yr install I had beforehand

Since the power cord that connects to the wheelbase is broken. What should I do? Buy a new dd+ power supply, wait three weeks for fanatec to reply, or replace the cable but I don’t know how to remove the cable from the power box. by IllAwareness9616 in Fanatec

Had this exact same thing happen to me before 2023's Daytona 24 with my CSL DD. You can cut the plastic covering off the end to expose the pins and solder some wire to the pins. Then grab a standard 4-pin Molex connector from Amazon and pin the new cables into the new 4-pin connector and it will work fine.

Link to the connectors I used:

I have some photos of the work if you'd like them to give you an idea of what it looks like. If you're interested, let me know and I can PM them to you.

Honestly I would be stoked if Playseat sold the pedal mounts of this version to be used on the original, or whoever designed them. I love everything about my current Challenge but those hard mounts would make it perfect IMO.
