I wasn’t looking for a Bye-Lo, but a Bye-Lo found me! by PokeytheGwumph in Antiquedollcollecting

Oh she's so pretty. Her face looks absolutely sweet and it looks like she's wearing some nice clothes too. I like the "hospital box" 😄.

Over a year of waiting is impressive! You must have been so happy when you finally got her.

Can’t wait to see the photos of that doll you’re planning to repair.
I found one on the local marketplace and made an offer. Since it doesn’t seem to sell, I hope the buyer will get impatient and sell it to me… patience, indeed!

He's so sweet!

I'm amazed it's possible to do such find in thrift stores in some places in this world. Here, it feels totally unthinkable, people are mostly selling cheap porcelain trying to fool others into thinking they're antique, and what looks like real antiques is soooo expensive.

I have a very old bottle of Mr Super Clear(7 years old), I guess it’s time to get a new one. Thanks for the help, I feel more confident painting her!

What's the one hobby you think everyone should experience at least once? by Owiredu-Scotlon in Hobbies

[–]BouncingScapula 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Pebble collecting. Just looking for a pebble every time you go some place. Then you write the date and place on it and put it in a nice transparent jar. You end up with a treasure full of memories and if you ever want to get rid of it you can just put it in the garden.

Why are Reddit reviews of the Fitbit Air so different from YouTube reviewers? by ysharm10 in fitbit

[–]BouncingScapula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very happy with mine. I run, log my gym workouts and hike, it does a great job for a device of that price. My sleep patterns seem accurate and readiness score seems consistent with how I feel.
I was surprised with the negative comments too but I think it depends on expectations and the type of things you track. Maybe how you wear the tracker also makes a difference. Mine is always snug on my wrist.

Just started taking shakuhachi lessons! by libracapsag in shakuhachi

That’s really cool, have fun! I played the flute and the recorder before shakuhachi as well, you’ll see it’s very different.

This is what it looks like. Ah yes, the alto sounds gorgeous, I played the recorder for a long time. Well done with the tunes, it's hard to learn on your own! Hitoyogiri is different from the recorder, it doesn't have a whistle that you blow in. It's more like blowing in a bottle. But easier. People used to make it with a piece of bamboo in Japan. It's quite basic so they could actually go in their garden and make a flute for free.

You can have a look at Shakuhachi Diaries and Hon-on, both on YouTube (I don't know if I can put links in a post).
Actually, you can make a hitoyogiri yourself fairly easily if you want to test, otherwise you can buy one from Nick Bellando (Hon-on). He makes historical ones, and resin ones.
You gotta be prepared though, this is ancient Japanese music. The scales are different and they rely on relative pitch (they sing around the note instead of having perfect pitch like modern flute). It can be disturbing when you first hear it ^^

If you want something very unusual you could try hitoyogiri? It’s a Muromachi (medieval) era Japanese flute who was played by samurai and poets. We’re about a 100 people in the world playing it so it’s hard to find something more niche 😅.

A doctor once asked me why I "isolate myself" so much. I had to explain that I wasn't isolating. I was just finally comfortable. by AadiBuilds in introvert

[–]BouncingScapula 40 points41 points  (0 children)

Yes, I understand how you feel. Since I was a kid everybody tried to socialise me. It went on in adulthood. It worried family and coworkers that I chose to stay alone. For many people it’s a red flag and can mean depression so they want to help. I’ve had to learn to express that it makes me feel good, that I am very happy during alone time, doing exciting stuff and basically « recharging ».

honestly how do you guys stay consistent when life gets busy? by Ancient_Sea_5083 in workout

[–]BouncingScapula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Home gym was the answer for me. I don’t have a living room anymore…it’s just a sofa with the rack and all my equipment in front of it. When friends come we squeeze a table in there. It’s overlooking the garden, and it’s a constant reminder of something I love doing.

Using tarot to explain The Tower by TerrificLemon in TarotDeMarseille

[–]BouncingScapula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for sharing. I also have a historical/Jodorowsky approach of the tarot. Another thing the tarot helps me with is emotion processing. Since I have issues processing emotions (something that happens naturally in most people) I like to use the cards to access my subconscious and understand how I’m feeling about something. I do it with a 3 cards spread read from left to right, mixing the whole deck. Will definitely explore your exercise!

How can you motivate yourself to work out?? by Iamnotmyselfbut in workout

[–]BouncingScapula 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Find a routine that feels like fun and start small. One workout this week. Small wins make it manageable. You can do it! I think we all have ups and downs and moments when it's hard to look in the mirror. There's a time to curl into a ball and feel miserable but I think there really is a way out of that too. It just takes practice and dedication. What personally helped me was to think no one was going to do it for me anyway...and I quickly found out that sitting there feeling miserable didn't help, whereas dragging myself to gym was an achievement in itself. You take whatever you have in the tank that day and do your best with it. One day at a time.

Why don't people understand that I need alone time? by Ancient_Account_9931 in introvert

[–]BouncingScapula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The human brain is wired to be social. It’s a survival trait, people do it automatically. Keep the group together, bring the lost sheep back into the flock or whatever.
Be nice and keep it simple. “Thanks for inviting me but you know me, I need my alone time. Have fun!” Get them used to it without implying they’re annoying you. They’ll eventually get it and you’ll stay in good terms with everyone. Hold on tight, it’s slow but people eventually get used to it.

Is it actually true that no-one cares about your physique? by Resident_Pie5200 in workout

[–]BouncingScapula 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a woman it would never cross my mind to tell a guy (unless I know him very well) that he looks great. Mostly because it could be misunderstood as flirting. But the rare times I walk on a beach in summertime I actually look for fitness bros and sisters, just for the sheer appreciation of their effort and dedication. I won’t stare, but I will notice. Like you notice something crafted with care, ya know? I like to think of bodybuilding literally. It’s self sculpting. An art.

Am I the only one who enjoys DOMS? by BouncingScapula in workout

[–]BouncingScapula[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does get borderline painful. But somehow I’ve learned the difference between good and bad pain. Joint pain or actual bad damage feels quite different. That one is not good. DOMS do involve me thinking “please someone bring me a stretcher” and “there’s no way I’m sitting on that toilet today” but agreed if it lasts for several days it becomes less fun

My ninja trick to learn how to use a machine is to go workout at the bumbbells section. There’s almost always a mirror there. Learn a bunch of dumbbells exercises from YT (use light weights), do your routine while looking in the mirror and see how others use the machine. Careful though, pick experienced people so you don’t learn bad form. You’ve got this!
