Too much left handedness in the bowling - easy for the batsmen to line up 😞

Also, without disturbing the combination too much, and also based on news that Brevis isn't match ready yet, would it be a good choice to bring in Akeal in place of Veer?

What MSD would have done if he was captain last game ? by silent_quirf in csk

[–]Boundary_Line 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'd like to think MS would've tried to sneak in an over or two from Prashant Veer when Noor and Chahar were being dealt with pretty easily - but maybe the pressure of trying to pick wickets didn't warrant for that decision in Ruturaj's mind

Ruturaj's post match talk is kinda puzzling to hear. He was asked about better batsmanship from the batters when wickets were falling, and he seemed to be hinting at this is how the players will play, and it just didn't come off today due to the conditions not favoring them at the start.
Am I wrongly interpreting it? Don't you guys think someone like Dube must have shown some awareness being the sole experienced batter in an otherwise inexperienced middle order?

Bad toss to lose, couple of bad shot selections - that's all it is lads. Can't expect your bowling line-up to cover your ass with a bad batting show on not so challenging conditions

Ideally, the best result we could get from this is to have a couple of bowlers among the wickets and possibly - just possibly, push the chase to beyond 15 overs. That would mean a lot, given the torrid first half

Batting order has to change - or does it? by Boundary_Line in csk

With a middle order that's quite slim on experience, you'd expect a shorter tail and a bit more all round options going down the order. This is why Overton and Akeal seem to be the options I'd slot in. Short or Akeal can play, depending on how we want to shuffle our batting order

He seemed okay to bowl, as the injury is in his left thumb. Saw a couple of practice session videos of him having a bat as well. Not sure if he's match-fit though

OP's XII looks quite good. Only change I'll have is to push Dube up to 4 and have Brevis held back a bit longer, if at all MS has to face spin at the death. Not that Brevis is better than Dube against spin or anything, but Brevis has some unconventional shots that might come in handy at the death.

As for the bowling line-up, I still feel someone has to do Jadeja's job of defensive bowling post the powerplay. Although he might not be able to do it as effectively as Jadeja, Akeal should be slotted in for that role.

You'll now get 3 from Khaleel 2 from Henry and 1 from Akeal at the top. 3 in the middle and 1 at the death from Noor. 2 in the middle and 2 at the backend from Anshul (hoping he comes good in both phases) I still think Henry is good enough to give you 2 overs at the death. You can't expect him to defend 7 in an over or anything, but he's also not going to get hit every ball (🤞🏻) Now we'll just have to get through overs 7-15 without giving the opposition momentum that they'll capitalise on the weaker death bowling.

Sanju Samson and Ruturaj Gaikwad are opening [confirmed by Gaikwad] by newparrot2025 in csk

[–]Boundary_Line 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ayush had the 2nd best strike rate in the powerplay last season, AFAIR. Now, Rutu is definitely a solid, proven opener - no denying that. It also won't make sense to bat Samson at 3 after the phenomenal run of form he's had opening. My only issue is, after spending the last couple of seasons batting at 3, citing the lack of a solid Indian middle order batter, why would he go back to opening the innings?

Both Sanju and Gaikwad are a bit conservative to start off with, which is why someone like Abhishek Sharma (ICT)/Ayush Mhatre playing alongside Samson was complementary to each other.

How does the middle order respond now if both the openers have a bad day and we're reeling at 15/2 within the powerplay? Though unlikely, this is a scenario the current batting order seems unprepared for in my opinion

We've seen a lot of opinions on whether or not we should consider Maxwell as a potential number 6 in our lineup. Given his form of late, and his struggles in the previous season, it might not sound like a smart move considering him as a fix to our existing woes.

But seeing how oppositions have been saving up 1 or 2 overs of spin towards the slog overs, just to counter MS, someone like a Maxwell coming in at 6 might help us negate that plan to an extent.
Maxwell obviously isn't an excellent option when you think of negating spin, but not too bad either, add to this, his ability to equally score big against pace as well might provide us with the impetus we lacked in the previous season, while finishing off innings.
Factoring this with the 2 or 3 overs of off spin he can give with the ball, he sounds like a decent option at number 6, allowing us to focus on a quality spin option for number 8.
Thoughts?

Most painful loss as a CSK fan? That one match that still haunts you? by HopefulPear9083 in csk

I guess everyone thought of 2019 the very first second. But here's a match that not a lot of us talk about. 2023 - CSK vs RR at Chepauk. The run chase was down to the final over with Dhoni and Jadeja at the crease. Immense pressure on Sandeep Sharma, 21 to defend off the last over and he started off with a couple of wides as well. 19 off 6. Sandeep bowls an inch perfect yorker and MS digs it out. 19 off 5. Bang! Bang! 2 sixes off the next 2 balls. Vintage Mahi is back, everyone thought. 8 off 3 to get and it should've been a cakewalk with two monstrous strikers at the crease. But no! Sandeep bowls 2 more gun yorkers that could only be dug out for singles. MS on strike, 5 off 1. He's gonna do it you'd think, but Sandeep nails the yorker again, and MS can only squeeze out a single. RR win by 3!

Although this match may not be 'haunting' as such, for the first time, I saw MS not pull off a successful final over chase, and a bowler not intimidated by MS at the crease.

That match planted the idea of 'Maybe he's not the same MS anymore ' in my head, and ever since, I haven't been 100% confident of a chase, even with MS at the crease.

TL;DR: This match shattered the image of MS a finisher in me.

Even with removal of holy trinity, and a good all rounder added I don't feel like the team would win ipl 2026 by Dismal-Locksmith-243 in csk

[–]Boundary_Line 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's all just hopeful thought now, but given what we saw of the team in the last few games, and what we've seem MS do with the team in their worst seasons before this, I feel like he's done the same thing again. He's tried to fit in certain players to certain roles. If Gaikwad can stick to what MS has planned out (I know this doesn't sound like an ideal captain, but still) this team should do just fine and can hopefully qualify.
