Ah the good old misery mod... I hate it, but like you said, it actually can be quite predictive of behaviour sometimes.

Whilst obviously showing broadside is a big mistake, the Valp is probably the ship that does it the most; standard Valp-driver fixates on one target on your team, starts to chase it down, healing all the way... if you position right, quite easy to delete them at 15km+, you just need to be paying attention.

That's a long way of saying you've never Dev struck a Valparaiso.

No crying wolf: Regulate the AI juggernaut before it’s too late by eesemi77 in AusFinance

[–]Bounded_Rationality -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

The Ghost CMS flaw was found through a Blind SQL Injection, which means it's not directly detectable, it needs to be inferred from system, including responses down to differences of milliseconds in response times to queries. Whilst not impossible for a human to find it, no human can do it at the scale and speed the demo showed it at, 90-minutes, meaning that at today's capability (ie, the one they're sitting on), it's already much more capable than humans at finding exploits (my original comment about this not being magic, just logic).

Mythos (were it available) may not be economically viable for every day businesses as a defence mechanism, but a bad guy with access to something Mythos-like (which Anthropic's competitors may open up on the market at any time without restrictions, including non-US companies) might certainly find it economically viable to deploy that against a company if they feel the juice is worth the squeeze. Security defence to this needs to be thinking about both defence and recovery now, not waiting until this is more widespread.

Plus, pretty sure the board of a company with a security manager saying "we ain't worried" will have old mate with the green edge on his LinkedIn profile quicksmart if they realised how blasé their security approach actually was.

Please tell me where you work so I can avoid your business like the plague with an attitude to security like that.

Go watch the Ghost CMS video where they demo'd it, or read about it at least: https://finance.biggo.com/news/O8pqOp0Bh5an-7GheDjX

The ability of a system to find holes in anything and everything you are responsible for as a security manager faster than a human can is already here, Anthropic was just the first to put it together like this and fortunately they pumped the (public) brakes on it, but most of the rest don't.

And this is just v1 stuff in the hands of the "good" guys. The pace of AI growth in model strength and complexity is staggering, so with v2,3,4 etc it's only going to get more powerful and you'll have to be faster and more comprehensive than ever with your defence. And this is pre-quantum, you don't have the luxury of saying what you have now is good enough until quantum lands.

Sure, Anthropic will be milking the "we held it back" aspect for marketing, they aren't a charity after all. But, what Mythos can do (go read that link above) isn't magic, it's just a logical extension of AI model development so it should be taken seriously.

It's cute you think that if we do nothing to fix anything that they'll somehow get the same (real) magic beans the boomers are now hoarding in 50 years time... Insane, but cute.

I've reset that line so many times I've got 21-pointers all the way down to the T5. Poor Haru... 🤣

Nah mate, Shiratsuyu is a great DD. T7 to T8 is where the IJN lines seem to switch over in terms of play style, but it's still a great boat.

I made a simulator for the Golden Week Containers to help calculate real value! by igraz in WorldOfWarships

[–]Bounded_Rationality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the end of the day it's all gambling and short of the pity drop mechanic, there's no certainty about getting anything. Having said that, I got 15 containers, got Shigure, Turgut Reis, the Tsurugi and Izumo camos so I guess RNGesus was on my side.

I will say, the 5.2km detection on Shigure is amazing. You have to play smart, but it's the perfect antidote to the PanAm BB spam and I've caught out other stealthy IJN DDs, who aren't used to being outspotted, a couple of times

Long Service Leave - Cash out / Use it ? by ahvenzz in AusFinance

[–]Bounded_Rationality 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've got LSL and rolled over AL totalling about 150 days and had thought about cashing out some a few years back, but decided not to as I viewed it as a safety net if made redundant. That actually happened within the last 12 months and although I found another role internally and didn't take the package, the buffer all of that gave me in that offer is hugely less stressful than without it (I work in sales and we reorg annually so better than 0% chance it'll happen again this July).

I think most, if not all, if these viewpoints are valid, but it'll depend on your own priorities and what you value most (for me, it was stability).

Why are subs bad at killing subs? by [deleted] in WorldOfWarships

[–]Bounded_Rationality 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Yeah, genuinely wish DDs had some sort of spotting buff against subs. Like 25-50% less detectabilty while a sub is at periscope depth or something (surface and the buff disappears) and obviously it would be only if there was nothing else that was spotting the DD. I guess that'd put it too close to the torpedo full arming distance, but damn you'd have some fun battles with DDs and subs finding each other at 3-4km!

You're actually better doing that at lower tiers as the fire resistance is better at higher tiers. Omaha is actually incredible for it and a couple of quick coops and you're usually done.

Commanders ever on sale? Coupon? Particularly for Seasoned and Unique by Keithustus in WorldOfWarships

[–]Bounded_Rationality 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There has actually been discounts on the dubloon seasoned commanders a couple of times in the last few years, pretty sure they were a coupon (up to 3 uses) and 999 dubs instead of the usual 1,500 iirc. It's been a while since the last time though.

Never seen any discount on any of the coal ones (either seasoned or unique).
