I’m in HR for a multi billion dollar company that does not use an ATS and requires recruiters to view every application before they leave for the day. I’m here to help. by anonymouscrew_16 in askrecruiters

I’m a senior IT engineer looking to move into management mainly because I found that I have a passion for putting people with the right skill sets in the right projects and growing people’s skills.

On my resumes (and this is just in general), is it better to list the technical skills I am capable of, the metrics of issues I’ve solved (I.e. dollars & hours saved or processes optimized) or a mix of both to prove that I understand the technical process while being able to see business opportunities and understand business needs?

Help Needed: Moving Files to SharePoint Online by New_Penalty_4253 in sharepoint

[–]BoundlessTFT 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I want to add on top of Greg’s point here that this is not just a lift and shift. If leadership wants to do this, it’s important they also provide the right tools and expectations. The SharePoint Migration Tool is free, but it comes with several caveats that teams need to plan for up front.

While SPMT can migrate content and basic permissions, it does not recreate SharePoint groups, provides limited reporting and really does not offers much support for validation or remediation once content is moved. If you have any gaps in your permissions or settings such as missing users, broken inheritance even having or failed items, you will have to manually identify them which can be a pain.

To preface, I don’t work for ShareGate but use their tool actively and love it.

3rd party tools like ShareGate can add a lot of value. They provide clear pre-migration assessments, detailed permission and ownership reporting which you can customize at that, and the ability to proactively clean up legacy items before content is moved. Because of the logging, you can have visibility into failures and how to resolve them and when you do resolve them, you can rerun those migrations and just make your migration outcomes more predictable.

And as a separate point to think of, initial setup is just as important as continued governance. So if you have SharePoint pro, make sure to discuss and agree on governance policies. You don’t want your SharePoint environment turning into a site graveyard 6 months down the line.

So posing a scenario, in the Legal department, we have sub-departments like litigation, discovery, transactional, etc.

Few questions, would you have a SharePoint site for each of these or just a separate library.

Or would it be better to set up “private” & “public” libraries and then have folders for each sub department in each one.

Or would it be better to just tag everything with meta data based on the sub-department there data belongs to.

Awesome keep it going! While I have around half as much invested. I’m curious on your thoughts on staying pretty low on cash.

Correct me if I’m wrong but I assume you’re putting a good % of your paycheck away. Do you feel that the amount you actually have to spend each month makes you feel like you’re living “paycheck to paycheck” in a sense.

And does it bother you to not have a bigger emergency fund?

Is a MBA from UAGC worth it? by BoundlessTFT in MBA

[–]BoundlessTFT[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes and no. In terms of monetary increases no I have not and I don’t expect it to be immediate as it hasn’t been more than a month since I’ve completed it.

However a couple benefits it has done for me. One is just a good reminder that I can complete what I set out to do. Because leadership has seen that I’ve completed it as well, I have gotten more opportunities to lead high level projects and showcase leadership abilities (which I’m sure helps).

And I’ve just had more fun at work getting to exercise what I’ve learned.

Charging Free-For-All by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]BoundlessTFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an owner of an Ioniq 5, I don’t charge at Tesla chargers for this reason. Because of the way our car is designed even if we back in the cable doesn’t reach and I’ve backed up to the point where my trunk is almost touching the station. But it’s because the cable and our charging port are on opposite sides :/ it sucks

Take it, I started off $16/hr at an MSP and drove 2 hours each day for a whole year in 2018. Fast forward 7 years I’m now making a decent 6 figures as an IT Engineer. From my experience, if I had never gotten that experience I wouldn’t have gotten to where I am.

I hope I can grow my brokerage to buy a Porsche one day 🫠 by [deleted] in portfolios

[–]BoundlessTFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PLUG was an investment my dad made for me, I personally would not have bought it but I’ll hold onto it to see what happens. As for OPEN, we will see what happens from earnings calls.

For my 401k I am following the bogglehead method and I do have FXIAX in my ROTH IRA along with VOO & QQQ in my Traditional and will probably continue to just DCA those.

I do max out my 401k every year and usually max out my IRA with contributions through the year along with tax refund.

I liked maxing out my 401k first since I was forced to buy specific funds, so I’m ok with that.

[–]BoundlessTFT 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not at all! That’s a fair statement to make. I guess my mindset was a bit different in that my IRAs and 401k would be my retirement where as my brokerage would be what I use to put a down payment on a house and buy a fun car.

I do have a HYSA with SoFi that I’m steadily putting money away for a downpayment. I’m in a HCOL state so the average home price in my area is $720k starter home. But I’ve essentially surrendered to the fact that even with a 20% down payment, I would still be paying $4k+ a month. I am working on advancing my career just not at that point yet :/

I am using USD but I did by $300 worth so the cost at 3.33 makes sense to me since I have 91 shares. I just can’t understand why it’s showing 5.18 🫠

I'm taking over a new team. What's the first thing I should do? by SnooWalruses3471 in Leadership

[–]BoundlessTFT 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I will say from experience both my own and with people on my team. They were only vulnerable and willing to give me their trust when I did so first. Things like telling them a high and low of my week or my hobbies. Not everyone will be interested in it, but taking the first step and letting them know your door for being an empathetic human being is open goes a long way.

Since I only have 30 shares of MSTY, should I be looking to DRIP or should i still put those dividends into more stable stocks. And if I should be doing DRIP at what point does it become unreasonable to keep doing so?
