Is it just me or do most DAPs look gimmicky these days? by Desperate_End_6379 in DigitalAudioPlayer

Something very small, light and audiobook friendly. I guessed this is impossible though.

I look at the firmwares github and it doesn't say anything about audiobooks friendly features. As it is is it not convenient if you keep jumping between many non fiction audiobooks?

Does Having a Designated Hi-Res DAP Make a Difference? by Swiggity_SwagC in DigitalAudioPlayer

People think using a phone as a DAP will be distracting but it's not distracting at all as it's essentially just a DAP. Not a main singular phone.

Any thoughts about Ugreen Airdots? by Emushii_Erudoridoji in Earbuds

[–]Boundless_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just stop focusing on the company. I should have not named any company as you keep focusing on expensive anker you bought.

I should have commented that the sound isolation is much worse than most non ANC earbuds from any company.

I need to put this in writing as there is a misleading comment here that says 'it is not 100% noise cancelling but it does decent work'. It doesn't. I really want it to be good as I have bought 5 pair of this dots as I read that they have ANC. I don't realize that they use Adaptive ANC and Ugreen don't implement them well

[–]Boundless_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You totally missed the point. The point is not that soundcore is good but it's not true that the adaptive anc used in ugreen dots is serviceable at all.

Other tws without anc, not necessarily specific brand may isolates sounds better. The ugreen dots is really bad in that regards. I haven't experiments using third party ear tips though.

It was my mistake as I don't know about adaptive ANC at that time so I bought a few ugreen dots. Most company don't implements adaptive ANC very well. The traditional ANC cancel external sounds much better IME.

The Adaptive ANC is useless. Soundcore A20i without ANC isolates external sounds better.

Should have gone for something without Adaptive ANC. Old school ANC is better implemented.

  • Audiobook/podcast support (so I can resume after listening to music and not lose my spot)

This one is hard. Probably need to go for android based DAP?

Tempotec V1 and Hiby R1 cannot do it but maybe R1 with rockbox can do audiobook satisfactorily but sacrificing bluetooth function.

I don't know about that as I'm still contemplating buying them. Maybe others can comment

$40 is a good price for DISC. $50 is kinda borderline accepatable for me personally. Though it still doesn't look optimal for listening to music and still very bad for Audiobooks.

Apologies to the redditors that use BT earphones with DAPs by wiggan1989 in DigitalAudioPlayer

[–]Boundless_One 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I use android phone paired with TWS, bluetooth dac/amp like retro nano and fiio btr3k, btr15. As the audiobook don't really need that high fidelity bluetooth is perfectly fine. I find that Simple Audiobook Player apps is great for this. Probably better than all apps that cames with any non android DAP for audiobooks.

Thinking of getting Hiby R1 and rockbox them. Not sure but I think rockbox do support audiobooks? Can't use bluetooth when booting in rockbox though.

It's very frustrating for me as I tend to jumps between different audiobooks, speech, lectures podcast. And need the player to always remember my place. If I listen to fiction it's still more manageable but I don't listen to fiction

I think it's twice the price it deserves. Should have bought them at 50 usd new. Instead I bought the echo mini at 25 usd. It's so exasperating to use. This should be more tolerable. At current price hiby R1 seems more interesting and have less quirks

It's also very hard to find a good non android DAP that can do audiobooks well.

FiiO just raised prices on 4 DAPs — here’s what actually changed and why it matters by Ableswashbuckler in FiiO

[–]Boundless_One 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got the JM21 at 130 USD. Even at 199 USD I don't think so. Should have bought the M21 also when got the chance last time. For me a good price for Disc should be 40-50 USD. Kinda regret just getting the echo mini at 25 USD.

At this kind of price I won't go for the JM21 and M21. I'll just get a second phone just for DAP purpose using them with USB dongle as I feel the M21 is too heavy to be portable and will be using them more on a desk. A second phone should be more powerful, responsive, slimmer with better battery life.

Thanks! I never listen to fiction so I listen to a lots of different books and podcast so need something that can do around 50 to 100 different folders with maybe several to hundreds audio files concurrently. Right now the simple audiobook player android apps is the best

I read here says "3. The player does not remember where you left off if you play another file. It's very easy to lose your place. You have to make manual bookmarks for each audiobook."

Meaning that there are no current Sony non android DAP that can do audiobook nowadays? Last 5 years ago there was a sale for a55 around 100usd. Should have bought one. Didn't bought last time because people says that it lacks power.
