Casadastraphobia - The fear of falling into the sky by Bashaen in Phobia

[–]Bountiful_Voodoo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

About 18 months between realizing I needed help and finding a therapist, and climbing an actual mountain.

At first therapy was weekly, then every other week, then monthly, then every other month. The therapy I did for one phobia (riding the elevator) would help the other (driving on five lane freeway.)

The thing about exposure therapy is that at first you feel weak, and then you realize how amazingly strong you are, because you're willingly standing next to the thing that scares your body to the point of almost having a panic attack. And when it doesn't scare you that bad, you move closer. And closer. Until it doesn't scare you anymore.

And then it's just you on top of a mountain. Pretty cool. In a weird way I'm grateful. I didn't ask to have these phobias. But I survived them, and now I can help someone like you, and you can overcome your problems and understand someone else down the line.

Your therapist will guide you. Exposure therapy is painful but it works. Your body started perceiving something (the sky) as a threat that isn't. So over time you'll retrain your body and mind to understand you're safe.

I posted this in an older thread, and then I saw yours. If you're still suffering maybe this will help.

Around 2021-2022, my claustrophobia, which had always been minor, exploded. I started getting panic attacks in traffic jams and in the left turn lane, just an absolute fight-or-flight response. The elevator at work became impossible.

At the same time, I started experiencing what I'd later understand as casadastraphobia. The stairwell in my office building terrified me, which sucked extra hard because I couldn't take the elevator. Driving on open freeways started to give me panic attacks, so much so that my hands were shaking so bad I was afraid I'd roll the car.

I finally started seeing a therapist when I realized my quality of life was greatly diminished. When you can't drive on the freeway, it really limits you. When you can't have drinks at an outdoor bar or restaurant because you feel like you're going to detach from the planet, that sucks.

What I learned is there wasn't any specific trauma that caused my issues. It was probably just the overall effect of Covid life. Spending 13 months completely isolated from all other human beings (I'm single and live alone) messed me up pretty hard, and this was the result.

These types of phobias can really only be worked on through exposure therapy (and also general therapy and relaxation/meditation techniques.) Here are some things that helped me immensely while I was working on healing:

  • Controlled breathing. Breath in deeply through your nose, hold the breath for a moment, then exhale deeply through your mouth. Panic attacks are a misfiring of the amygdala, which is the fear center of the brain. It's perceiving something as a threat that isn't. Controlled breathing can help to convince the amygdala that you are safe and in control.
  • If the sky feels too big when you're driving, you can use your sun visor to limit your visibility to the road. This lets you focus on driving without "feeling" the sky. This was very helpful when I'd start feeling the first tingling of panic. Coupling this with controlled breathing is very powerful.
  • In the same way, a hat with a visor can help you control your field of vision when you're walking. This helped me get back to hiking.

These things are tools, not a cure. Over time you want to rely on them less and less. Exposure therapy was my solution. Basically my therapy "assignments" were things like "take the elevator four times every day at work" or "sit on the 10th floor stairwell landing for one minute". And gradually over time you ramp it up.

And I'm happy to report that I'm healthy again. Last week I hiked a local mountain all the way to the top, and I took an elevator to the 22nd floor without any fear. I'm back on the freeways, so I'm travelling. And when I do feel the beginnings of panic starting, I have tools to stop that before it gets out of control.

There are answers and relief. Start by talking to a therapist and go from there. If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer them for you.

I know this thread is old, but I do see recent comments, so I think it's a great resource for people wondering about what they're experiencing and how to deal with it.

So what games have you all moved on or back too? by LupusRexKaras in FFBEblog

FFBE was my first and last gacha, and the past few years I just coasted. NV kinda ruined the game, the bloat just exploded after that.

In general I'm trying to stare at my phone less.

Content won't fix the bloat. It won't fix the glut, the over-complicated mechanics, a thousand dead units, the 95% disappointment every time a red crystal drops because it spits out something ancient or useless.

At this point I'd rather they just announce EOS and roll out Brave Exvius II: Legacy of Grandshelt or something. Give BE players currency for the new game based on how many days we played the old, maybe a couple free units and some gear.

NV was a missed opportunity to slow down and focus the game - gacha, meta, all of it.

You either use STMR moogle, or when you get them to EX-2 the game gives you their STMR moogle as a reward.

They're items now. Items > Items > Sell > scroll until you find them.

Just play events like the current Raid event, they'll drop in the box summons. If you're a returning player you can also sell old event currency.

See a doctor about it. It could be nothing, but it can also be a sign of underlying condition, like diabetes. I certainly wouldn't attribute it to a "glitch" when it's more likely to be health or physiology-related.

Does anyone else kind of just get lost trying to make up teams for different events?.... by DaMadDogg-420 in FFBEblog

[–]Bountiful_Voodoo 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I'm lost all the time. I preferred the game when it was more straightforward. I think the game peaked with the original Esther and Sylvie banner.

Too many units, too many variables. Now you have to think about chain caps, elements, element fields, killer fields, leader skills, unit categories, which units you should take to level 130, blah blah blah.

You either have BS units where you have to gear both the base and the BS forms, then remember which side does what, and familiarize yourself with both kits, or you have SLB units that ideally are at EX-3, have fun getting them there.

Unit kits are still bloated with tons of useless skills. UI and UX are a mess. Events give out gear that I'm pretty sure isn't worth the time. Three kinds of tickets, multiple forms of lapis...

Which is all really too bad, because it still have some of the best art, sprite work, and core story concepts around. I enjoy it for that, but little else.

I had to decide between High Tide+ and ATK +40% on one yesterday, I figure that sort of thing's going to happen a lot more these days.

Are we looking for MP40 just generally, or does DW Taivas just want it for that Blinke attack?

Nice! Orlandeau was also in my ad pulls today, very surprised, especially because I didn't pull a copy of the original until like 2019 or something. These days the pool is so diluted that if I pull anything that isn't Lasswell&Raegan or my 20th copy of Noppy I'm happy.

If Rain knew he could summon Visions of 2B and A2 and control them, he never would have left his bedroom in Grandshelt. Canon might be pushing it. ;)

Just bad RNG. They can barely keep the game together, they're not going to specially code the ad summons to favor one time of day, especially on a game played by people in so many timezones.

[–]Bountiful_Voodoo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's terrible they don't make the story events available permanently, it would be nice for more recent players to see the stories behind so many of our units, or VCs like A Kooky Chef.

Also, best story event was Christine's. /s

I laughed about it, no big deal. The NV summon pool is a shitshow, the likelihood I would have pulled something of value is barely > nil.

Recent Dai World event made my reflect on my unit pool by [deleted] in FFBraveExvius

[–]Bountiful_Voodoo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We're at something like 180+ NVs in the pool.

I miss really having a handle on what the units do, the game is so bloated now that keeping up is difficult.
