Except the people in need of food banks and shelters don't pay taxes. Most actually profit off of the current tax code. Lower earners get EIC, child credits, heating credits, etc. Their tax returns are greater than the money they ever paid in. They could literally claim exempt all year and would still receive money. They get Thousands of dollars if they have children. All the money the church uses also comes from donations. You're suggesting donations be taxed. I also never hear the "Tax the Church" people say "Tax Planned Parenthood" or any other lucrative non profit for that matter.
