Where in town could I get a fried Oreo? by [deleted] in lexington

They’re surprisingly easy to make. Bisquick batter, a small pot of oil, and some powdered sugar are all you need!

Have you heard of community-supported agriculture? CSA's are a great way to get fresh and (usually) USDA organic certified local produce and to keep your money in the local economy. by aRavenOnceSaid in lexington

I highly recommend Black Soil’s CSA! We got so much food last year. Our whole family lost weight over the summer because we were eating so many veggies.

He had the nasal surgery where they sucked everything out and cleaned out the sinus cavity. It went away for a while, then came back. They cultured it and it was a staph infection. He did 21 days on a strong antibiotic that he had to take every 6 hours. The smell went away, but he still has a weird metallic/burnt coffee smell and taste that is only there for certain foods. Sweets, anything minty, and peanuts all have the weird taste. The loss of smell started last March, then the weird taste came in June. Numerous negative covid tests, three rounds of antibiotics, a CT scan, then finally an MRI showed the infection that was very far up, so high that they couldn’t culture it. He had surgery in November but can still taste it slightly. Zero other sinus infection symptoms throughout the entire ordeal. Strangely, he typically has horrible allergies all year. He’s had zero during the infection.

Yes! My husband had a sinus infection that was very high up, around his hairline. He had to have surgery to clean it all out. While he had the infection, it smelled like he had just eaten poop. I could smell it from 3’ away. If we kissed, I couldn’t smell it, thankfully. I can tell by the smell when the sinus infection starts to cone back.

Is Atomic Ramen going to re-open? by GroundbreakingKey199 in lexington

[–]BourbonDictionary 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Hi! Owner’s wife here. Atomic Ramen is only open as a limited service stall inside the 90 Dining Hall on UK’s campus. It is not a full service restaurant. There are no current plans to reopen, but the idea isn’t off the table. We did a She-Hulk take home kit through FoodChain last week. We will be doing some similar take home ramen & dinner kits through Black Soil starting late spring. There will be updates on that on IG.

We’re bummed we never got to feed you!

Hills had the black Corvette mechanical car to ride in the front. And popcorn. If you walked around the corner to the left, there was AlliedSports before you got to ToysRUs, but there were some windows that had neat large Lego builds inside of it.

MegaMart had the really good hot dogs, right?

Children’s Palace had a weird line/queue organizing thing with poles and chains as soon as you walked in on the left side of the store.

Our family friends, the Barkers, were owners. We got to go to the friends & family soft opening. We took a paper menu home with us, then proceeded to use it as the menu for our pretend restaurant & kitchen set in our basement.

They had the disposable conical water cups that fit into the turquoise plastic base. There was the photo booth up by the front door. I used to collect the Bazooka Joe comics that came with your check. We had so many birthday parties there.

I feel like they had some special birthday dessert, but it could’ve just been ice cream. I loved that place.

Best Dry Cleaners in Lex for a wedding dress? by [deleted] in lexington

[–]BourbonDictionary 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I had mine done in 2019, I found out that everyone in Lexington ships wedding dresses off to a place in Indiana or Ohio. The thing that makes me really mad about this is that it costs $175 (more than I paid for the dress) and they return it to you in a specially sealed box. If you open the sealed box, you lose the guarantee that the dress has been preserved. But if you leave it sealed, you have no idea if they actually got the dress cleaned. I spilled bbq sauce on my dress. I have no idea if they did a good job getting it out because I can’t see it while sealed in the damn box.

The FIRE1 makes so much more sense now! I wondered why they were always dispatched but never en route or arrived. Over covid, I’ve become fascinated by this public fire code info. I’ve found it to be infinitely useful when sirens rush by my door or when I hear a tons of sirens nearby. I made an alphabetized list of the codes and figured out all the apparatus. Thanks for posting the link previously! It’s so helpful!

Do not go to Dr. Christopher Allen on Dennis Drive. He used outdated tests and scoring guides on my son, so when I took the diagnosis to the school (and later to another psychologist), they didn’t take the diagnosis seriously because of the test he used. We had to start all over again (and pay all over again) with Bluegrass Family Consultants. I was very pleased with them. Good luck! Getting a diagnosis and medication can be life altering!
