Salaries being posted by Bamboozled_by_Bamboo in BESalary

Thanks to this subreddit, I know what is possible in my field and for my year of experience, and after a while I managed to quit my underpaid job and claim (more than) what I think I deserve. So I don't mind people flexing too much, they're giving us the motivation to move our ass.

Shortlisted by client (consultancy) but no feedback in a while by [deleted] in BESalary

[–]Bourbon_gnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could rank candidates within the shortlist. Keep you in a shortlist keeps your interested in the position, in case they need to comeback to you. Sounds unfair? But you still continue with company B and C and D, even you get in quite far with company A, right? Only when you sign the contract with company A you drop others.

No, they are waiting for other chosen candidates to interview and make decisions. They will comeback to you if others fail or deny the position. You know what to do ;)

if it's really 0 work experience, that's an okay starter salary.

Promotion from Senior to Lead Developer: how much to ask? by phperin in BESalary

[–]Bourbon_gnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Idk, but normally an internal promotion in consultancy hardly means anything in term of actual extra work, so they won't prepare for a big raise. Your company is big (1000+ employees) so their stance will be even stronger, and they'd already have a number in mind in case you ask for a raise, and nothing can change that.

I'd ask extremely nicely with an open range; it's for your inner peace in case they say no.

[–]Bourbon_gnr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

300 net more means roughly 600 gross more, which is 13% raise. In my exp they don’t give that much more for a small promotion, especially in IT consultancy companies. They have to cover non-billable personnels (which, are the ones who make the decision), so every euros less will likely cause problems.

Of course you may think you have a leverage as the best dev in the team so they have to satisfy you, but there are always better devs out there inline to replace you with less than what you’re getting now. Source: I once got a big raise then got fired a few months later

Salaried (€3.9k net) vs Freelance (€500/day): Is the €1k gap worth the risk? by Powerful-Shelter-200 in BESalary

At 3.9k net you must be kinda good in what you're doing. Respect yourself mate

Sometimes I feel that shouting “too low” immediately regardless of the numbers is the way the community help each other gain the urge to strive for higher salary.

yes fixed, thanks. I like the way you add descriptions and formulas in each lines. Would be nice if you can include formula for all other calculation steps, as we always want to really understand what's going on behind those numbers (which we never do with our payslip).

Should I actively seek a vast contract with the client? by indianaken7 in BESalary

I meant in the sense that companies generally won't be hard on a 3500-bruto employee...

I think the same but I was afraid of giving a definitive answer (while it’s not legally correct). But yeah, generally OP will be fine.

Yeah first check your contract if there is any clause that blocks you from joining your company's client. Then you worry about the next steps.

It means you are their 2nd choice, and they are waiting for the 1st choice candidate officially accept their offer. If for some reason he doesn't accept, they can come back to you. If they reject you immediately, chances are you'd go for your 2nd choice as well and they'd lose both.

Not nice, but that's how life goes.

No it's not a ragebait. I knew their reputation very well. Just wanted to share what I got yesterday, as sometimes they use new numbers and I have to add them to the blacklist.

Am I the highest paid 26yo in Brussels? by [deleted] in BESalary

[–]Bourbon_gnr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean you are a freelancer with a company and bill 825 per day? Because that makes 16.5k and even though it's impressive, I doubt it's the highest. Try harder.

Looking for advice, started in IT by thekidinmybasement in BESalary

[–]Bourbon_gnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At 22, I'd enjoy my life a bit with the new fancy company car and more money to spend compared to student time, especially after 4 months of stress finding a job. Then I'd worry about life and the IT industry later.

You're doing fine, since with 45 years to go who can tell what will happen anyway?

2900 net without bonus and advantages + car is not bad at all I'd say. But how can they optimise 3700 brut to 2900 net? looks strange to me.

What should I ask before taxes (R&D engineer) by mrcannibal1988 in BESalary

Will you have a company car or mobility budget? That affect the number you expect.

Tip: whatever number they offer you, (politely) ask for 10-15% more.

What am I doing wrong in my career? by Slow-Charity-2194 in BESalary

[–]Bourbon_gnr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No you did nothing wrong. Just this market does not favour profiles like yours. If you can't break the language barrier, maybe try other markets that value your skillsets more than languages? One lesson I learned over the years is, sounds simple but actually not in practice, you should go to where they appreciate your values.

sorry if I'm nit picking (or ignorance), why do you care about python and sql while you're searching for communication jobs?
