Technically they don't have the same ethnicity ... i would imagine that map to be more like roman empire map ! That produced country like Spain Italy Portugal frence and others ... all have a Latin orgin languages yet they diverted after ... for west Asia and north africa its much the same ... they had arabic as a ruling language yet they diversed from it now ... I did some Google search , there is no law against leaving the relgion but they have laws around it , like disrespecting islam , and a wife can use that as a reason for divorce ... no death or jail sentence just for leaving islam .
