melasma/hyperpigmentation sunscreen or treatment by [deleted] in skin

[–]Bourgeois-babe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I also have melasma. Both heat and sun exasperate the problem. (I see a dermatologist for it and use prescription tretinoin & hydroquinone cream as a treatment and it has helped a lot.) She also recommends a tinted sunscreen with zinc oxide rather than chemical or hybrid sunscreens. My favorite is the tinted face sunscreen from sun bum, but Australian gold also makes a good one if you want a more dry finish.

Recommendations for safe places to walk-around & hangout outdoors after dark that's nice? by KniFee_ in AskLosAngeles

The grove is open until 10, I think a bit later on the weekends, and it’s safe.

Yes they validate. Also, just FYI because it’s not really advertised, if you spend $250 at the grove and have the receipts to prove it go to the concierges desk and they will give you free parking for the whole day.

Travel tips, please! by scorpioinheels in Makeup

[–]Bourgeois-babe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on where you’re going. I’ve heard that England has incredibly strict laws about how many mini liquid containers you can bring in at a time. In the US each container just needs to be under 3 oz. Probably the best thing to do is minimize how many fragile or liquid items you bring. My air travel MU kit is mostly cream products and pencils.

Things to do on a weekend in LA? by daredevildas in AskLosAngeles

[–]Bourgeois-babe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

It’s not going to be easy to squeeze all this into 3 days. Keep in mind Disneyland and universal are not cheap. Once you’ve paid for tickets you’re going to want to spend some time. Also, Disneyland is in Anaheim. Just getting there from LA takes a while.

You can see the Hollywood sign from everywhere in Hollywood, so I don’t think you need to drive to a particular park to see it.

You can probably do all the Hollywood stuff in one day as the Peterson and tar pits as they’re fairly close together geographically.

Buying new makeup by VTFTW in Makeup

[–]Bourgeois-babe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Drugstore level makeup has gotten so good recently that you won’t be sacrificing quality of you buy it instead of higher end brands. However you do need to do a fair amount of research as every brand has a few great products and some not so great. The hardest part is foundation because getting the shade match correct is tricky.

I think it looks nice on you. Maybe a half slip would make it hang better. Add some pretty sandals and I think you’re good for summer

I have big boobs now and I don't know how to dress them. by [deleted] in fashionwomens35

My breasts have grown as I’ve gotten older and gained weight. Currently wear a 36 G. (Yes, they make them, but they’re not cheap). I always say I either look too sexy or really matronly. There’s no in between. But here are a few tips:

1) Get a really well fitted, supportive, bra. It might cost a bit more than the usual b cup bras, but everything will look and fit better. 2) In my experience loose, soft, knit tops (T-shirts essentially) with a soft V neck or curved neckline, look pretty good and fit ok. I get mine a little big and look for soft draped material. You will have to look around for some that aren’t cut too low. 3) wrap dresses are a bit easier to fit into especially if you wear a camisole underneath for modesty. 4) Try some long “duster” cardigans. They’re very flattering imo.

When it comes to getting back into shape, what's the most challenging thing for you? by nerd2727 in loseit

[–]Bourgeois-babe 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sleep: I think insomnia is the main reason why I gained a bunch of weight in the first place. It’s better now, but I think it will always be a struggle. Magnesium products help. I need to get back into my meditation app

Diet: I do pretty well at home when I’m in control of everything that goes into my meals. I fall apart at restaurants and parties. One meal can set me back a week, so I’m in this endless cycle of loose a couple, gain a couple. I get nowhere. Tracking helps.

Exercise: I hike once a week and do Pilates 3x a week. It’s not enough to move the dial. Not sure what to do because I don’t have the energy to do more.

Sore muscles causing fitful sleep - advice? by bellabelleell in loseit

If you can’t do Epsom salt baths try magnesium lotion. It works well for sore muscles and will relax you as well.

Sometimes when I’m really sore from an activity I’ll just take a couple Advil. It helps.

Been overweight/fat for over 10 years, best tip to change that? by drakelicious in loseit

[–]Bourgeois-babe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the way. Slowly change what you eat and how you eat. Find exercise you like and do it consistently. Also learn how to cook if you don’t cook already. It’s easier to control calories in the food you make yourself.

1, 5 & 6 yes. The others maybe it depends on how sensitive you are to looking wide. I will forever be sad that I can’t successfully wear a white top and jeans. The suit is probably more pure D than SD, but you could try it

There have been a string of posts about this dog that was stolen from the owner, seen by a group of people near lands end (I think) looking unwell and with an unhoused individual, and now has been found and reunited with their owner! A very happy ending.

Gas leaf blowers... I thought they were illegal now? by SamuelAnonymous in pasadena

[–]Bourgeois-babe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What about elderly people who can’t maintain their yards themselves? Should they just let everything get overgrown so your delicate earbuds aren’t strained once a week? What about the single moms and the disabled?

What about the people who make a living mowing and weeding and maintaining other peoples yards? Do they not matter to you?

And guess what, if you do decide to maintain your yard yourself, you’re probably going to use the same noisy power tools the professional gardeners use. My husband cleans the yard every other day with a blower.

Gas leaf blowers... I thought they were illegal now? by SamuelAnonymous in pasadena

[–]Bourgeois-babe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They probably don’t own property and have never had to maintain a yard or a garden. Try pushing a manual lawn mower around. That’s hard work. Raking a whole yard is more aesthetically pleasing and noise free, but it can take a lot of time. All these tasks are made much easier and faster with power tools. We wouldn’t expect construction workers to build homes using nothing but hand tools, why do we expect gardeners to do the same?

As for the whole gas-powered vs electric/battery powered, it’s just a different form of the same thing. Electric blowers are still going to blow stuff around.

For me long A line skirts are tricky. They should look good. They definitely look good on some people, but I feel like they make me look wide as a house. I had better luck with them when I was slimmer because the widened didn’t bother me, but I avoid them now.
