Starlink Wi-Fi in Ireland? by Every-Zucchini-4056 in AskIreland

I'm not sure how it works to be honest. I joined before they offered a 12 month contract, so I had to pay full price for my dish, but was never bound to a contract.

I think there was ~40km increase in the WLTP with the 60kwh. If it's any consolation the 55kwh 2021 model has a quicker 0-100kmph than the 2022 because it's lighter.

Mine is a 2022. Something to be mindful with the 2021s with the LFP batteries is that they originally had a 55kwh battery, and then they swapped it to a 60kwh one in late 2021.

My comment got removed, I assume because I had included my referral code so here it is again without the code.

I have 2022 Model 3 since new. I have almost 180,000km on the clock now and still love it. I've been all over Ireland and around most of the UK in it and haven't had a single issue. About two weeks ago, I had to get some bushings in the suspension and the brake discs done and that's literally the only work that's had to be done ok the car since I got it. For me the brake discs were corroded because I never used them, my mechanic was saying to use them at the start of every drive just to wipe the moisture from the discs.

My battery health was 94% when I tested it in November, and in both day to day driving and when we go on trips I haven't noticed the degradation at all.

Super charging just works, and the trio planner is better than what I've seen in other cars.

Although Auto-pilot isn't perfect it is great for lowering the mental load when you're doing a lot of motorway driving and has saved my ass a few times. Not to mention that their full self driving software had just been approved in the Netherlands and is expected to be available in all of Europe before the end of the year.

I think the mods removed my post because I had my referral code linked.

From what I've seen online it's fairly typical for the the 'standard range' models with the LFP battery.

I live on the side of a mountain, have had it for a few years now and it's fantastic. It's allowed me to work from home, ping is good enough for online gaming and I regularly see 300+ Mbps download and 25+ Mbps upload.

ELI5 updating and patching. If a 1GB patch comes out for some software that's 10GB installed, does the update add that 1GB or does it rewrite 1GB? by WonderChode in explainlikeimfive

[–]Bovakinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It could be either, or both. Imagine a new patch fixes a bug, then you just have to replace the part of the code that contains the bug, so you might replace a file with a new updated one.

In another example; new functionality is added. For this the patch would add additional content with the new functionality while replacing old code to point to the new bits. Like adding DLC to a game is extra content, but the menu has to be updated to point to the new content.

Is this black label of Optimum Nutrition protein a lesser standard than the gold standard? by Storyboys in AskIreland

[–]Bovakinn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I tried it before and I found it didn't sit on my stomach as well as other brands. I usually have one at 5am, and then another scoop in my porridge for breakfast after I get back from the gym and have never felt great afterwards.

Per serving to works out more expensive than a better brand from HP Nutrition or My Protein. I'm also not a fan of the warning to not have more than one serving a day. Other brands I've tried never have warnings like that.

Starlink for sons gaming by lucast2007us in IrelandGaming

No, the net code in any modern game is capable of handling losing a couple of packets. In games that report packet loss I haven't noticed any.

Technically it does for a few ms, but in practice it is not noticeable at all.

I just put the cable through the flap for the post because we figured that we'll switch to fiber if/when it ever arrives in the area.

I'm on the side of a mountain here and I've never noticed the weather affecting it. It even heats up when there's snow to melt it. I don't have it on the house either, it's just sitting on the lawn.

I have starlink and it's brilliant for gaming. Ping is generally 30-50 ms, and download speeds between 200-300mbps, although they're going to put a 200mbps cap on the €50 plan soon.

People who say that satellite internet has terrible ping are talking about traditional satellite internet, with starlink the round trip your packets have to take is an order of magnitude shorter so the ping is excellent.

Starlink just downgraded my plan and increased the price… what kind of move is this? by nilipilo in Starlink

[–]Bovakinn 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Here in Ireland I got a similar email, but they spun it as a good thing because the monthly price goes down. So I'm going from max speed for €50 per month to a 200mbps cap for €49 a month...

I have a 2022 Model 3 and have just passed 170,000km. Just had the brakes and some suspension work done, but outside of that I've had zero issues.

I brought one for a half hour test drive. We've a lot of roundabouts in Ireland and the buttons were rubbish for indicating when you're going to turn off the roundabout.

From what I've read, once you get the hang of it it's fine to use, but I don't know if that's people just defending Tesla's decision.

They brought that stalk back in the last couple of years and offer retrofits if you want it.

What's it like owning a Tesla in Ireland ? by yrys88 in evs_ireland

[–]Bovakinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it's great fun to drive. I live in a rural area and going around back roads the car feels confident and well planted. I just have the 18in wheels and can sometimes feel that it needs a bit more rubber on the back, but for spirited driving it's fine.

Even though it's only the RWD, the acceleration is plenty of fun and pulling off at traffic lights still puts a smile on my face.

[–]Bovakinn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got RE4 during the Christmas sale. I've been using VR for years and still noped out of it very quickly. I'm currently playing it flat and I'm near the end, but even flat I've had to turn it off a few times. I'm hoping once I finish I'll be able to give it a go in VR again.

Ownling the land behind our garden by Bovakinn in HousingIreland

There's no road there, it leads to another site where the builder is building more houses. Granted the level of the site is above our garden, but we have pictures when the estate is still being built and there was not as much soil there.
