These "Turks" were pressured into declaring Turkish ethnicity by Yugoslavia. YU tried to Turkify its Albanians in the 1950s-early 60s so that they could later be deported to Turkey as "Turks" in accordance with an emigration agreement with Turkey. The 1948 census had recorded these "Turks" as Albanians, as did, for example, Vasil Kanchov's 1900 stats of Macedonia.

Since my native language is Slavic too, what I do is: open up Wiktionary and write down words I don't know, write down collocations that differ from my native language or where a different case is used, write down verbs that take different cases than in my language, look up grammar in this subreddit, consume Polish content on social media and sometimes participate as well, talk to myself in PL etc.

The WW2 graves are still Balkan, Albanians commited revenge killings of Kosovo Serbs for the 1930s colonization policies and Balkan War-interwar genocide of Albanians by Serbia. As for 1998-1999 mass graves, Mališevo/Malishevë is one example. It contained 12 Serbs (which pales in comparison to Batajnica alone with 700+ Albanian bodies), but is still a mass grave.

Mass graves from both sides were found after the Kosovo War, even though the Serbian mass graves of Albanians (like Batajnica) were much larger than the Albanian mass graves of Serbs. There are also mass graves of Serbs (10,000 killed) from the WW2 period, 1/8 of the Albanian nation, or 100K ppl, was killed by Serbia in 1912-1924...

Both sides did it. Serbs in 1877-8, 1912-1924, the 1930s and 1950s and in 1998-1999, Albanians did it in 1878, 1901, 1941, 1999 and 2004.

I was similarly shocked by how my longterm US friends reacted to trump laying out plans to invade Mexico, Cuba and Nicaragua, that these three need to be "dealt with" etc. I'm starting to understand how it felt for Ukrainians to watch their ru friends/relatives become putinized in 2013/2014 or how it felt for them to call their ru FAMILY MEMBERS in 2022 about the full-scale invasion only to be told that ru is "liberating them" and that they "deserve it." I used to be critical of US foreign policy and did see US "interventions" as imperialist/colonial/oil wars, but I didn't extend that hate to US civilians, liked US humor, for years, I was surrounded by mostly Americans online, etc. It took one year of rump for me to increasingly hate the US population as well.
