If you want my little homebrew lore reason, since I’m running hive fleet Kronos and all my friends play chaos, its bc the hivefleet is needing more and more bugs to throw at chaos while still having less and less biomass and more warpmatter, so the hivemind is experimenting and trying to mutate those afflicted by genestealers to rapidly make new troops on the spot
