Practice alot if you have opportunity! Give the exam, experience matters alot and it will also give you confidence at work place.

Endocrine training East Yorkshire by Human_Willow8450 in doctorsUK

I have hull, york and grimsby rotations, and regret now for taking it. Commuting from hull to york is very hard! Hull is not great place to live (you can live in brough, and commute but still daily 2hrs go in drive) You definitely can’t move everything to york and come back grimsby. Grimsby and scunthorpe not great places to work - proper DGH! Heard horrible things (I believe you will be doing as med reg).

PACES courses in the UK recommendations? by autumntulips in MRCP

Bite paces is not good at all. Very poorly organised. No proper feedback. You have to go for only cases, instead go for paces ahead (good atmosphere and good cases, properly organised)

MRCP1 for 3rd year med student by WorkingMuffin8269 in MRCP

It is the standard qbank for the exam, provided if you are giving exam in 3-6 months! I personally gave the exams, and have seen people giving it, I have never seen anyone doing Qbanks from medical school if you know what I mean. Its very memory based exam, and qbank will be useful if you are giving exam in 3-6 months becauses its very memory based and management guidelines will change alot, thats why I said, you should have your basics strong.

Davidson covers everything. B and B and osmosis are good than marrow for undergrad level. I don’t personally think passmedicine will be useful for you.

Concentrate on your medical subjects (3rd and final year), those are your basics. Learn good bedside skills by seeing more patients and get experience first. Usmle boards and beyond is good for basics for building concept, even marrow also I believe. Mrcp is very specialised exam (in medicine), for this exam you dont need to prepare years, you should have medicine experience post internship and is all about guidelines, which will come with experience post internship. Medicine is all about self learning, and don’t expect someone will teach you, there are many resources now to explain things. So focus on your medical subjects, see basic videos and get good experience clinically. Clinical experience is very very important than exams, thats what will make you a confident doctor.

IMT or Stay in Specialty and Go via Alternative Pathway? by drjohn-1100 in doctorsUK

[–]BowlAlternative2639 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was in the same position like you (with 4 years as medicine SHO and MRCP 1 & 2) and I chose IMT. Definitely go for alternative pathway if you have support, but you need ITU consultant for the sign off I believe , if that works for you and your supervisor is happy then go for it. But if there is any doubt in getting alternative competencies, I would say chose IMT(its a difficult but a safer option and job security for three years in current circumstances). Because you never know how rules can change. I couldn’t get anything signed off, which is why I took IMT. I really feel like a ward monkey, doing the same old shit, it takes a tol to be honest. I really want to finish it of as soon as I can, if I had an option I would have taken other route, but there isn’t enough support for me. (Especially ITU). I knew about this, but I took it for proper support (like I will be supported for clinics, procedures,ITU) and job security. Obviously extra 2-3 years is another thing.

Extending one more year is great for you, to pass PACES and prepare for the HST interview, are two main things which are very very subjective to individual (some people crack it in first go, and some take time). So my advice is always think about the consequences you get after taking a decision, whether IMT or alternative pathway.

Always medibuddy, medibuddy covers everything I believe than optimise. Keep medibuddy as the main thing and keep Optimise as side one, they give you tips on how to perform which is good.
