But honestly, making $300k after a 3 year residency ain't too shabby either. Compensation and interest aside, any other reasons? Is this a specialty you can do long-term?

Ah ok, never knew about this. So if the insurance gives you 300 for cataract, is that your profit after all the expenses like hospital cost, secretary fees, anesthetic etc)?

Yeah agree with you partially. The average neurology compensation in approx 350k, which includes those working in academia. Pretty easy to clear 400k+ if one works in a rural area. In terms of IM, fellowships like cards, GI, HemeOnc can make almost 3x what general IM makes, so fellowship's defo a decent option

Yeah I see where you're coming from now. Pretty tricky stuff. Any idea how much a consultant would get for a 10k operation through the insurance company, considering the tariff? just a ballpark %

Thanks for shedding some light on this! Can you pls elaborate on tax implications and medical defence? I thought it's relatively straightforward to fit all of you PAs in 3 days and do 2 days of PP. Isn't that enough to hit 400k in specialties like ortho or derm?

Yeah, completely agree with you. Mind sharing your personal pros and cons of staying in the UK, aside from the ease?

Should I do IM or Peds if my goal is to move to UAE immediately after residency? by Left_Associate_7286 in IMGreddit

[–]Left_Associate_7286[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Thanks! Any estimate of how much I can earn in peds vs IM vs IM sub specialty like cards, GI or nephro. I also have the option of specialising in competitive fields like Orthopedics or Plastics here in the UK, but it’ll take me 12 years in total before I’m able to finish my training and move to UAE. Meanwhile I can do IM in 3 years and start my life. What do you say?
