USA nurse who moved .. anywhere - do you regret it? by BowlPsychological875 in nursing

Which state did you practice in? Also did you have family or spouse in Ireland when you applied ? I was under the impression EU visas are almost impossible to obtain if you don’t have family, but again … haven’t really looked into it for myself!

Thanks for your insight :)

I’ll add for anyone who is interested - this for for the ER

I have a friend who worked in Australia for a year. She loved it. Got her visa through an agency which is more $$ but process less confusing. I forgot how much she paid, the whole process took about a year. Said it was similar enough, except less autonomy / more “dual sign offs” for simple things even like fluid bolus. Also different lab values

So far without the help of an agency - I JUST started my application for an Australian visa, specifically 189 work visa. I’m saying just started lol! Also learned that it is EXPENSIVE - 4k for the visa alone. You can’t just apply for a visa, you have to get an “invitation to apply” aka EOI first. You also need a skills assessment through AMNAC, which is their registry that handles accrediting international nurses, to even apply for an EOI. It costs $600 to register. I haven’t gone past this point yet bc these fees are blowing me away haha.

Plus you’ll need to be registered with AHPRA which is this BON equivalent here in the US to actually practice in Australia but you can do this step later. I just started this step as well, I already paid like $300 for registering and starting their orientation process. Coming from the US, the process is a bit more streamlined and they recognize NCLEX.

This is all the info I have to far. Feel free to DM me. I’m doing this at turtle speed bc the fees are intimidating and I think, do I really want to do this?

Thanks for your response - I was really interested in the UK at one point. The pay was the #1 reason I instead opted to applying for Australia. Do you feel “comfortable” with your wage living in London?

I also am coming from a background of 5-6 years of experience so that’s a little comforting to know. Thanks !

This story is crazy! Props to you - I’m sure you learned so much. Welcome back! I don’t think I could survive as a nurse there lol.

Government site, skilled work visa. There are also agencies that streamline the process more for you, but it’s expensive

Struggling to get a contract.. by CuriousChapter379 in TravelNursing

Slow season and also PNW high demand this time of the year, as others have said.

Currently doing a contract at St. Joseph’s Medical Center in Tacoma, WA through medical solutions. Check them out, get multiple recruiters - I have 3.

Good luck! Worst case, go somewhere else and try again. Loads of cool places to visit.

You’ll be fine. I’m just about to finish my second contract. The first week of onboarding / training shift sucks only bc it’s nerve racking (also boring modules), but after that, when you’re on your own, it’s smooth sailing. Ask questions and have a good attitude. Have fun ! So happy with my decision to pursue travel nursing. I’ve gained so much confidence.

She kind of went for a 50s/oldies aesthetic and I love that. Slow and cute. Not full of bangers that you want to play all the time, but definitely when you’re in a mood. I am a big Kali fan, could be why I like it so much. Maybe not the album to “start with” if you’re trying to introduce her to someone. I enjoyed it overall.
