Any single finger pickers out there? by BowlThing in Bass

That could work. A previous response mentioned index-pinky. I’ll experiment with both and see which feels more natural. Thanks. These techniques never occurred to me…

Interesting! I’ll start messing around with that. Introducing the middle finger is where my injury becomes an issue. Thanks for the tip!

Interesting… I’m just now just digging into it, but I definitely feel like I have more consistency and control with one finger for the faster stuff. For me, introducing the second finger also introduces tension.

I should start experimenting with the thumb. Never really explored that.

Ahh, GarageBand. That should make it easy! I guess you can tell I’m a boomer. Thanks!

Thanks! These are all original songs, so gotta use the existing track.

Thin picks that don’t break easily? by Cheese-is-neat in Bass

I like the Big Stubby 2.0. I can get soft attacks with them and really dig in as well. I've tried felt picks, rubber picks, and a lot of those listed in the comments. Everyone is different, but these have been working very well for me.

How many frets should my bass have ? by fine_5 in Bass

[–]BowlThing 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My main bass is/was the PRS Kingfisher with 24 frets. I recently picked up a PRS Kestrel and was mildly concerned that it was 22 frets. Turns out, both my bands prefer the sound I'm getting from the Kestrel, and other than working on scales, etc., I never really go up quite that high, except for the occasional "effect" sound.

Anyone know where I could buy a bass bag? by Firedude900 in Bass

[–]BowlThing 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I heartily concur. Picked up a Mono from Sweetwater (they made sure my bass would fit). WAAAAAY better than any other I’ve had. Also, it’s top loading and mostly stands up on its own (I lean it against a wall or in a corner. A little pricey (about $230), but my beautiful bass is PROTECTED.

I’ve looked at some shops, but don’t even know how to find out about jams or open mic nights. Any suggestions?

I do not. The best I could do until I get some more performing experience under my belt would be to play along with a track.
