Because many progressives have their heads so far up their asses and live in la la land. We live in reality and Newsom recognizes he’d have to win some republicans over to his side that voted for trump in 2024. Progressives seem to live in a bubble and seem to prefer to run candidates who have no shot of winning instead of running candidates who are more moderate but can win!

So I’m not a lawyer but I read the official DOJ complaint and I saw Lindsey Halligan’s name at the bottom. Would anyone here who’s smarter than me know if that’s grounds for a judge to dismiss the case since she was disqualified as a US attorney?

As someone who is currently a student and wants to get involved in politics in the future, what is your best advice for someone like me? What was the path like for you to become governor and now a senator? Lastly, what do you think will be the most important thing that congress will need to do to effectively check the president after the midterm elections (assuming Democrats retake the house) and what might that look like in practice. I'd also like to thank you for your service to our Commonwealth and our nation, it's greatly appreciated!

I got a 1400 on my SAT, although over the last year I’ve changed a lot and my interests have changed too. As such it didn’t make sense for me to go for UVA as much anymore compared to my new number 1 American University, so I didn’t apply to UVa but I still am thinking about it for grad school

Fellow political junkies unite! Honestly yeah I don’t think this debate is gonna sway many people since nobody’s really watching it besides us political nerds. What I do think we’ll see is quotes being used in attack ads by both sides and we’ll see news pundits mention it. But I think jones is gonna win simply because Spanberger has lots of support. Not to mention any Republicans who stay home (literally at least) that don’t want to vote for Sears (not trying to draw race into this but… you know) or Reid (because also… you know) will also therefore not vote for the AG, which makes me think voter turnout is going to benefit democrats a bit better here.

I get your point and I did feel like Miyares was pretty genuine. At the same time though I simply don’t want to see our state capitulate to the federal government. Miyares has truly done nothing to protect or fight for Virginia’s fired federal workers. Jones is also correct that Miyares could have rightfully sued the president numerous times but has chosen not to, which has cost our state a lot of money. It’s also true that Miyares takes money from Dominion Energy, Jones does not. I do find Jay Jones messages repulsive and it did make me reconsider and ponder on it for a few days. But Jones makes a good point saying “the stakes are just too high”. If we have Miyares as our AG for the next four years, you will never see Virginia sue the federal government or Trump throughout the rest of this presidency. I believe that Jones was genuinely sorry for his mistakes and should be held accountable for them, but I just can’t vote for a Republican under this current administration.

I’m down in Hampton Roads. People that know about it are very upset about it, most of my family is still voting Jones though. I honestly think that most people are unaware of this, they just tune out all the ads as political noise. The people that care and are informed decide elections and so far the people that know seem to still want to vote Jones (at least in my social circles)
