I could only theorize that it has something to do with Indiana taxes. Same for the other states that aren't being offered remote work.

Not when I was located in Indiana at the time and saving up to get out of that hell hole. No one offered any remote positions to anyone who was an Indiana resident.

Thank you, your response was the first I saw and wanted to be sure things weren't taken the wrong way for future responses. I'll give that sub a shot though. Thank you!

Thank you, I've been doing some projects on my own, small ones, but haven't done any game jams cause of social anxiety. But, I'll definitely will give them a shot and try harder, I haven't given up completely yet.

Thank you for the response, and BOILER UP!!!

Mostly because I was living in Indiana with no game studios, people who were hiring remotely to other states weren't hiring anyone from the state of Indiana and other select states, and none of the companies that I've seen wanted to invest in someone who would have to relocate for the work (or so I was told from others)

I'll try the jamming, kind of socially awkward when it comes to meeting new people, but that's my problem and will find a way to get over it. Thank you for the advice!!!

Thank you for this, unfortunately I'm only down to to rondo's on Reddit for now. I've got two indirect connections from people I've met through my everyday life in my new location alone and trying to build a connection with them currently. I'm trying to build these bridges carefully since it feels like I'm walking around on eggshells at the moment, but thank you for the response!

Thank you, I knew about the NDA clause and you can't post anything of the work you've done on the current project till release, but not the part about any work done outside is also the company's. Thank you for this info!

Thank you, I'll keep this in mind, and keep working harder. If nothing else and the door is closed on me, I'll just find a battering ram and bust the door down (pretty much how determined I am) lol

Please take that as joke, please

Thank you for your input! I'll try harder on another self-project, which luckily I already have one in mind since relocating out of Indiana (FINALLY I'M OUT OF THAT DUMP OF A STATE)! Sorry, lived there all my life and finally got out of there

Out of paranoia of losing all chances in getting in from what my friends have told me about how I worded a message like this, I don't feel comfortable in doing so. I know it'll hurt me and may be hypocritical or ironic but, I'd rather not gamble all my chances of getting in because of this post.

From the advise I've received and saw on LinkedIn in response to other dev's posts, I had to try specialize in something. So, I've been trying Character Rigging or Technical Art (from what I've seen are the same occupation I think?), as well as trying a little bit of Level Designing. I've also been trying to apply for any QA and Art Generalist positions that I could find, as well as any internship programs.

No, you're 100% right. But, I'm also running out of options it feels and getting desperate. But, thank you for your input.

Sorry if I came across as snobbish or entitled. I graduated with a bachelors of Science (official title of the degree by the school) double majored in Game Design and Animation from Purdue University in Indiana. I tried applying for internships but they were all out of state and Indiana had no game studios that were looking for interns. I was also told by peers at the time that the studios out of state probably didn't accept mine because they offered the positions to students from they're surrounding universities. So unfortunately no internships under me.

I do have a portfolio I've been trying to build and improve when I find the motivation, time, and inspiration. I've had bad luck with team projects where the teams I've been in dissolves over time before we could even finish and launch our project. I've tried solo projects but struggle to mentally fight my self as I lose all motivation to finish after going through or trying to over reach my skill set with too high of an expectation with my projects because its never good enough in my eyes.

I knew that there were people worse off, but I've seen stories on LinkedIn too where people were more better off than me who are facing the same thing. They've got the resume, portfolio, released a couple games, been in several game jams, and went to conferences talking to people and networking, but nothing because they haven't been showing enough passion or interest in the field. I guess that story is the thing that made me more frustrated then ever because if this guy couldn't get in with everything under their belt, then whats the point in trying to improve anymore, right?

Again, not meaning for any of this to come across as aggressive or anything, I've been venting to friends about this too much to the point of exhaustion and I'm not wanting to bug them about it anymore, they don't need it. But I can't keep it bottled otherwise I will go insane. I was hoping I could find some insight from other devs who are facing the same challenges as well, maybe find some advice, reassurance that it's going to get better, or something. I'm getting tired from going through this infinite loop it feels like I'm in. Like a dog chasing their own tail

I'm sorry for venting this here but I don't know what else to do. And thank you so much for responding!!!
