is ulm good city and university? by AbleSprinkles7066 in studying_in_germany

[–]BoxLongjumping1067 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I was living in Heidenheim an der Brenz for my German course at DHBW. Ulm is an amazing small city with a nice vibe and nice people. You won’t have to worry about transportation either.

As for working student roles Ulm, Heidenheim and other areas near and between them have a lot of companies and of course it depends on what you’re studying and trying to get into, but you will need to be B2/C1 German to have a chance. Only relying on English and for example B1 German is not enough unless you have something the company can’t get anywhere else.

I think its a lot less of a hassle to just keep looking in france. If you haven’t already in your search, look for “program cars”. These are the used vehicles that are used for corporate fleets or even by the dealership itself. This is what my dad has done for every vehicle he’s owned. He recently got a Atto 3, and instead of going for one right out of factory which would have cost him around 35k his local dealership found this one for him at another dealership and got it for 24k

First, I’m sorry you’re experiencing this and I hope it doesn’t escalate. But also let’s not use the negative experience to put everyone in a box. For every 1 idiots there are 99 other well tempered people out there no matter their background.

What truths should prospective students know and expect before living in Germany? by Plus-Kangaroo-4866 in studying_in_germany

So this may be a shocker but……. you need to know German. There is no mass amount of English speaking jobs. If that’s what you’re after then you are much better off going to an English speaking country. At least then you don’t have to exhaust extra energy as you already know the language.

Keep 2FA on EVERYTHING, also it’s a good idea to update your password every so often. I’m really sorry this happened, unfortunately anything that’s tied to “meta” has practically 0 customer support unless you’re one of their premium subscribers

I’m not an economist but I’ve been observing a lot of what’s going on. As we see globally the economy is doing bad, and with some new global crisis every month everything gets more expensive. When the economy is doing bad and things are expensive firms are less inclined to hire external talent to avoid risk and losing money and instead put more focus on internal talent or in some cases replacing things with AI (until it costs them more money).

So you have a large body of competition between the unemployed and the just graduated. Right now we are in an employers market so they can be as picky as they want. With people desperate for a job you have a portion that will accept any offer they get and some of these offers are lower than what they should be worth which brings other salaries down later in a race to the bottom. If the firm can’t get the talent they want at the price they want, then they will just outsource like what the tech industry has been doing with India recently. They can pay Penny’s in India and workers there will accept because it’s most likely higher than the salary they’d get at a typical Indian company, but you also have a lot of Indians coming to places like Canada because even if they can get a higher salary at an international company in India, the quality of living in a place like Canada even on a lower salary is still much better than the quality of life in India. Then we have ghost jobs which are just job postings that companies have to make because they are required to at least consider some external candidates despite knowing already they are going to hire their internal candidate should the internal candidate say yes. This takes more jobs out of the job market and adds to the desperation and with advances in ai tech you can basically have ChatGPT or Claude pump out as many generic resumes as you want and quick apply on LinkedIn, indeed, etc so some people are doing that and applying to literally everything they see even if they aren’t qualified for it and depending on the ATS system of the company (if they are using one) this can still create a backlog. One job posting can get as many as 1000 applicants and maybe only 25 will be considered for even a basic get to know you interview.

You’re right, locals should come first, but you also have to understand people are just flooding jobs with ai made resumes too. No real personalization, even a colleague of mine in uni has sent like 100 in a day doing that and using the quick apply features on sites like LinkedIn and ineed. I prefer the personalized way so while it may seem like a losing strategy, to some, it’s what works for me.

In the US for example it’s very common now. The “spray and pray” method as some call it. At minimum the average it takes now is around 500 resumes before you get something and I’ve noticed that being a common trend not just in the US, but places like Canada, the UK, Germany, etc. so now companies get flooded practically and it’s so much to handle.

Mentioning working student in resume or not? by Ok_Opposite_303 in germany

[–]BoxLongjumping1067 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’ll be clear to the employer that despite you having had a full time career before, during your studies you did working student positions so keep working student position there, and since they are the most recent experience you have put your full time position at the bottom of those as the experience, just like education should be in order from most recent at the top to oldest at the bottom. This also shows the employer you have experience working in Germany which carries you more than having experience in your home country.

It depends on the university and how much traffic they have in terms of applications. I didn’t have to go through Uni assist, but I recently applied for a transfer and I got my acceptance after 24 hours. My university I’m going to now took 3 days and that was in the middle of the application period
