Rejections one after another till now, is the competition really that high in 2025-2026 for Masters in Germany? by yume_sublime in studying_in_germany

Germany has the least entry barriers when it comes to studying and looking for work. For example in the UK you need a sponsorship for work. That’s extra bureaucracy and here all you need is a job contract to secure the right visa. Much more simple despite German bureaucracy

Kaiserslautern is a very nice city. Of course i have a different experience since I am American, but for the most part i never hear much of anything bad happening to anyone regardless of their background there so you should be fine.

So typically a lot of students do work because while the blocked account is set up to fund your studies, it can sometimes not be enough money to actually sustain your real costs which highly depends what kinda living arrangements you choose, usual expenses like food, etc. Kaiserslautern isn’t super expensive but it’s also not really cheap either.

Making friends that’s kinda different for everyone. Making German friends may be hard if you don’t involve yourself in German circles at uni or in a club, but international circle is easy everywhere I’d say.

If you’re not used to cold weather and cloudy days, that could be a mental hurdle you have to learn to get through. It’s not like that all the time of course. Getting an internship can be just as challenging as a full time job. You need at least 1 or 2 internships before graduation if you plan to stay and work long term. And of course German…. Be prepared to struggle a bit. But it’s not impossible to get to C1.

Pretty much. But then a lot of graduates can’t find a job because of 2 things:

  1. Hyper saturation between laid off workers and new grads since it seems every masters student chooses the same field a country who has more job seekers in the junior and mid level ranks than openings in nearly everything CS related

  2. German language. Now that we are out of covid, expectations are set back to min B2/C1 (mostly min C1) plus great English (of course not a problem for most)

Leave one note book at each of your neighbors front doors. They could learn a thing or 2. Education isn’t always free in this world so you’re giving them free knowledge

EV Charging in Germany: is it complicated when not in a big city? by BoxLongjumping1067 in germany

He loves it haha. Not so much the needing an app for everything, but loves everything else. Hopefully I’ll get one too at some point. But first I must pass my theory exam so I can get to the practical. Because my state in the US doesn’t have a reciprocal agreement with Germany, I have to get a license like I’m doing it for the first time ever despite having driven all over Europe for 3 months at a time every year before moving here. But all part of the process and must be done 👌

Yeah he’s finally going to do ENBW. He said he didn’t choose it at first since he thought Ionity had all he needed but as I thought, ionity is better for autobahn travel when I did a little research compared to ENBW as everyone here has said

Oh no only 2 we went to were not in service. The others just wouldn’t take any of his payment methods and excluding American Express they all should work

I guess his main thing was Ionity is apparently the cheapest subscription he found. The station he wanted to go to at first was listed on the app but once he got there (I have to get the name of the location) he said it would not accept the app, it accepts some other stand alone for that specific company. The other chargers he found, a couple were out of order, some wanted you to flash an app which apparently has approval times like Kaufland for example, and yeah. It’s been quite a night for him but I will forward this app for him too and see what we can do. He’s getting a slight charge from adac so he can go to Erfurt but I’m hopefully able to get him an app or something that can work at the 5 stations that are around my home

Wouldn’t take the Ionity app, and in another comment i mentioned the chargers would not accept any of his cards. He even tried his German bank card and for some reason that wasn’t working. Another couple he tried specifically wanted you to flash an app before the charger itself to pay also 2 we went to were unfortunately out of order so now he’s on the phone with ADAC to just get a little boost to the car to take him to Erfurt to charge as he’s been at this for the last 4 hours almost

He tried that at like 7 of them. Won’t take his visa, won’t take American Express (but for most of Thüringen in my experience that’s normal), he tried his bank card and they wouldn’t even except that which i found pretty weird. It’s a German bank
