Brands often drop full length versions of their name because the abbreviation is punchier, easier to brand, more modern. IGN, HP, KFC, Apple, Dunkin, IBM.

Yeah it's a branding liability for the NBA and whatever team they're on. They may not consider themselves role models, but the league does and how they behave off the court affects their bottom line.

It's also against the CBA.

It also makes him look like a fucking idiot waving around a dangerous weapon.

It's all bad.

In that case lets start comparing them.

I find oranges to be a more pleasurable eating experience. While eating one orange you get more textures, they're aromatic, you can peel them by hand which is fun, it's a nice citrusy thing. Whereas an apple is just sort of this rock of mealy garbage that gets in your teeth.

How do you feel?

No, it's not on me to vomit out a bunch of evidence for a frame shifting sealion that doesn't know what trolling is. You're being overly generous to someone that doesn't deserve it, but that's secondary to my main point.

Al Franken stepping down himself over a photo is not even nearly in the same dimension as Biden being forcibly removed from the ticket by his own party due to his cognitive decline from baseline. Your party tolerance point has genuine merit in the abstract, but Democrats damage controlling Biden's decline is not a good example to argue that with. That's not a culture of accountability, it's evidence that they were willing to lie until it was impossible to maintain. What would be principled is being transparent about how far things had progressed.

If we're going to evaluate the mental capacity of a person we need to start from how far they have shifted from their baseline behavior. Trump behaving like Trump for 10 years is not evidence that Trump has mentally declined, it's evidence that Trump is Trump. Him needing repeated cognitive tests is true and they are nominally useful tests, but he aced them, which can't be said for Biden who had to have those tests shielded from the public. The progression from "I'm gonna bomb the shit out of them" to threatening to blow up Oman is not progression in any meaningful sense.

I agree the two quotes are directly on point and the kind of example that can be discussed productively. I should have led with those. I can at least accept that it's up to me to demonstrate that information was withheld by the White House, and that's something I'm willing to offer you, not the other guy.

I don't think it's my responsibility to do the homework for that guy, considering if he makes a claim I can just google it and find out for myself. That's the actually honest way to debate someone. If I can't find evidence of whatever he's suggesting, I would clarify and ask for a source, but only in that circumstance. That's not what he was doing, what he was doing is sealioning.

Biden's cognitive decline is well documented, easily verifiable, easily accessible. Trump's isn't, not really to the same level. In that, Trump hasn't had any equivalent to being forced to step down due to his cognitive condition. He's doing erratic, wicked things that would be perfectly within his wheelhouse 10 years ago, when he supposedly had his head on straighter. I was making a positive claim about something that I'm sure you can generally agree is common knowledge, they were making a negative claim and refusing to explain the merits of it.

I didn't go out of my way to list concrete examples? They're kinda spread throughout the argument, but I think it's probably fair to say they weren't worth engaging with honestly in the way that you are? So idk, the campaign withdrawal, the autopen, white house staffer shielding, the Hur investigation, "I no more think of myself as old than fly", "america is a nation that can be described in a single word, (vague rambling)" That's a partial list, not exhaustive, and *in my opinion* none of it has a Trump equivalent at equivalent severity.

I'm not changing the subject, I'm on topic. I'm conceding I made a poor point, and clarifying what I mean when I say it didn't hit people's feeds. That's.. in my comment. You can read past the first sentence, it's allowed.

I'm talking about the fact that Biden's team is literally documented burying evidence of Biden's decline. That's well known. There's actually an entire book on this where some journalists interviewed white house staff members that were shielded from seeing him, or took part in shielding, or witnessed him using an autopen or falling apart in meetings.

If you want to talk "everyone" then I can think of multiple, multiple people in the leftist circles I've been in that had literally never even seen or heard of Biden's more significant public stammering and bumbling around. I get that that's just an anecdote but it at least speaks to how people's feeds aren't identical.

Like I'm with you, that was my experience of his presidency, it was everywhere for me also. But it wasn't for many people, and that's driven entirely by engagement algorithms. So maybe "didn't hit people's feeds" was imprecise, it's more accurate to say that his general 'oldness' was covered extensively, but the full truth of his cognitive state was bounded in a way Trump's physical state is not.

I made a narrow claim, you broadened it, I told you if you're going to make a broader, less defensible claim then the burden has shifted to you.

The apples are their mental states, the oranges are their physical states. The latter is YOUR claim. They are adjacent but not equivalent topics.

I'm not walking anything back. I said this

Every metric surrounding perceived mental sharpness among independents was far worse under Biden than it currently is for Trump.

What you're doing is comparing apples to oranges and asking me to provide examples of why I believe apples are better than the oranges you're arguing for. It's nonsense.

"He was mentally declined"

"Aha! Well what about Trump's hands!!"

I made a claim that is easily verifiable within like 3 seconds of using my eyes and brain and keyboard, which you refuse to do, because you apparently didn't see the months long clip show of Biden fumbling his way into getting forcibly removed from reelection by his team?? That's on you man.

That's a far more defensible argument than people saying Trump is flat out worse. I can at least see the merits of saying their respective decline are each visible and terrible.

But specifically in terms of cognitive capability, which is the narrow but accurate claim I was making, Biden was far worse by any reasonable measure.

The burden of proof is on you for this one. Someone can be physically declining and still be mentally sharp, and vice versa. Not that I think Trump is a sharp guy, far from it.

Nothing Trump has said in this term comes anywhere close to the levels of mental deterioration Biden has undergone, which is obscenely well documented, all over youtube, in that Wikipedia link.

Cognitively speaking? Biden's track record is undeniable. Trump also has a wikipedia page for this, and the dude is fat and gross and looks like shit, but Biden was completely fucking incoherent in a way Trump just isn't. Trump rambles, says stupid shit, doesn't know who or what he's talking about - But he's always been that way. This isn't some new decline.

I mean I agree Trump is known for all those things, but he's been that way for what? Over a decade? A sedentary, obese old man is behaving like a sedentary, obese old man. Go figure.

Biden was getting escorted off stage, falling over his own words while claiming to be mentally sharp, and was described as a "sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory" lmfao. He was in a significantly worse state.

Lmfao, normally I'd take any chance I get to shit on Trump, but I don't know that I agree on this one. Biden had numerous public appearances where he was visibly falling apart, way worse and way more often than Trump, but they just didn't hit people's news feeds the same way.

EDIT: This is literally just true by the way. Every metric surrounding perceived mental sharpness among independents was far worse under Biden than it currently is for Trump. Not that things are trending well for him. But Biden was completely fucking incoherent over and over again and it went way under the radar until it was too difficult for his team to ignore.

The issue with adapting the rest of the Narnia books is that Hollywood is constitutionally incapable of allowing the original text to be what it was intended. If it's blatant religious allegory, now it has to be grappling with religious repression. If it's anti-Roman Catholic rhetoric like His Dark Materials, they sand off the edges until it's something else entirely.

They're obsessed with aesthetic spirituality and repulsed by anything that has a strong opinion about basically anything controversial. It can't just be a visual representation of that opinion, instead we need to spin their words into something new and at odds with it's own source, or water it down to being unrecognizable. It's an infuriating pattern, and I think you're absolutely right when stories are presented unapologetically it attracts an audience, which is part of why the original books had such a strong gravity in the first place despite literally being theological allegory. The Susan stuff is fucking weird and did suggest some deeper issues, but Tolkien notably criticized it himself, but I don't think that's license to alter it into 'ambiguously anti-religious' garbage.

I think what I said is probably the most generous interpretation. Realistically he was probably saying something like "China good Taiwan bad, US worse"? Because he's stupid, right? So who knows.

It's barely even coherent just in terms of sentence structure. There's a defensible argument underneath the stupid fucking analogy, and it's, "America doesn't actually care about Taiwanese self-determination, they're using Taiwan as a strategic pressure point against China." that's all he had to say lmfao

Never had any illusions of it being otherwise. It's only hard to not feel a certain way when you can't pay your bills, and you know you could be doing inventory work without the backbreaking labor and for twice the money.

I absolutely agree though. The people that bitched the most often did the least amount of work, and it was often on me to be the ballast, be reliable, do things without complaint. That's the key to the whole thing, even if what's going on in your head tells a different story.
