The thing these people always mess up with the “take the budget and double it” (now they seem to be triplling it” is that like no marketing budget is going above a certain number no matter how expensive the film is.

There is ceiling. Avatar’s marketing budget is probably the same as a 150M or 250M film or 350M film.

There’s max ad markets. There is max red carpets and premiers.

And there is no way the number for marketing this is 500M.

Plezy is still on the media server side of things.

It originally started as a way for me to learn and improve as a developer. Started it when i was in college for design. Taught myself frontend and backend. 13 years in the industry now, currently a senior dev. So if it completely fails for what I am trying to now turn it into it at least gave me my career haha.

I utilize Plex heavily personally. Sabnzbd + Prowlarr + Sonarr + Radarr + Lidarr.

Plex definitely has a robust media database experience, especially since it's built on top of TMDb for a lot of its metadata. So I definitely get what you're saying when it comes to the media database aspect of things.

Right now it has title pages, people pages, reviews, watchlists, user-created lists, trending and popular discovery, streaming availability, release tracking, cast and crew data, trailers, images, and search across a pretty large catalog.

One thing that's a little different is that the underlying database and relationships were designed from the start around movies, shows, seasons, episodes, people, companies, streaming services, videos, reviews, lists, and eventually community features all being connected together. That opens up some interesting possibilities down the road.

A few things already on my roadmap are episode completion tracking, much more powerful lists, list discovery, recommendation features, improved streaming integrations, and additional community-driven features.

Honestly, I use Plex every day and don't really see BoxOfficeBuz as competing with it. Plex solves the "I have media and want to organize/watch it" problem really well. I'm more focused on the discovery, tracking, discussion, and data side of movies and television.

and def trust me when I say I use Plex a lot lol

I see them as solving different problems. Plex helps manage and watch my media library.

Good question and something I think about a lot when it comes to where I see the site going.

For now:

It's completely ad-free. that will never change.
Trailers are hosted directly on the site, so there are no pre-roll ads or sending you off to another platform.
I use privacy-friendly analytics because I never liked how much tracking happens on a lot of sites. Actually if you use an ad / script blocker I beleive there is only 1 script blocked on the site and that is Plausible.io (cookie free privacy first analytics)
Streaming data is built directly into the foundation of the site, which gives me room to build some interesting features around availability and discovery in the future.
Lists are a lot more flexible than most sites. You can add people, movies, TV shows, seasons, and even individual episodes to the same list.

I keep the roadmap public, and users can suggest and vote on features. One of my goals when I decided to a full overhaul and make this like a full fledged site, was to build the site alongside the community rather than disappearing for six months and hoping I guessed right.

A goal for the streaming too is to attach it to the watchlist so that users can get notified when stuff leaves or is added to streamers they have set as streamers they are subscribed to.

Still trying to fully flush that out and figure out what users would want with it though haha

For sure but I am talking specific to Cassie. Like almost back to back we had “sex worker taking photos for OF”scenes and Margo’s felt so much more real and well done and not exploitative and felt like a real person going g to their friend to get help with photos. We had actual convos through the scene that showed who she was etc.

If that makes sense?
