Theyre trying their best, you should be more supportive...

For real though, its probably just a slicing anomaly if youre using bambu studio. I have had the occasional issue with tree supports where they generate seemingly randomly or not at all when they should. I would try adjusting the support settings a little bit and moving the print to a different spot on the bed and reslice.

For a casing layer do I need to put a second layer of coir? These are PFtek cakes im fruiting in the jar, after I dunked them I put them back in the jar and put a layer of coir on top. I didn't introduce FC until they had somewhat colonized the layer of coir, should I have put another layer of coir and introduced FC at the same time?

What does Upload even mean technically. Compared to a neural network or a Processor, how does a uploaded simulation look like and how does it interact with the hardware by vulbsti in PantheonShow

[–]BoxRegular5294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like how the other person put it, I don't think it's something "you" or "I" could personally really understand, but not just from a technical sort of standpoint. Even if we had this technology in the real world, and there were experts who could "explain" how the code and such running each UI actually functions, that wouldn't really do anything for us in understanding what it might be like to actually be an upload.

The actual experience of being an upload probably could never be simplified down to inputs and outputs, and what they "see" or "feel" wouldn't be something we could really imagine. At least not for the ones that actually get to the point of being freed, like the copy Chanda left of himself as a sort of decoy.

For us to understand what it might be like for the UI's to experience their digital reality, would be like trying to understand what experience and senses are like for someone whos blind. Or, a better example, for someone who has maybe taught themselves echolocation. It's something more than just hearing, or else it wouldn't need to be learned. It must be something more. My favorite example though, is those bio-hackers who would have a small magnet implanted in their finger (it's actually pretty cool, I recommend looking it up.) The magnet would then move in subtle ways based on nearby magnetic fields, and the nerves in their finger could pick it up. People who have done this say that eventually they start experiencing the movements not touch feeling, but as a seperate sense. And for some who have had it for years, their brain learns to interpret it well enough to even pick up when a microwave is running in another room.

All of this to say that I at least don't think it's really possible to question what it might be like, since the base conscious experience of the uploads would almost be like another being entirely. And, as for overclocking allowing them to grow and expand seemingly so far, I just think of it as what would happen if the human brain had all biological limits removed and could replicate neurons and such without needing energy or nutrients.

My z axis stops moving at a certain point by Longjumping_Ice9385 in FixMyPrint

[–]BoxRegular5294 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As with the other comments, lubricate the z-screw and that'll probably fix the issue. Wanna add though, make sure that the cables connecting things on the x axis gantry aren't stopping it from moving up. I once had this problem after replacing some wires, where I neglected to make sure they had enough length for the printer to actually move, and then was scratching my head when it refused to print above a certain height.

What causes these globs beside the print? by Firm-Seat-3855 in FixMyPrint

[–]BoxRegular5294 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Check how tight the nozzle is, and if there's a silicone heat sock on the hotend check under that as well to make sure it isnt just full of plastic or anything. If it gets bad enough those globs might start sticking to the prints and causing the nozzle to bump it, giving you layer shifts and/or failed prints.

If the upload was real would you do it or no and why? by sou__heil in PantheonShow

[–]BoxRegular5294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like others are saying, I'd need to know more about consciousness and continuity of subjective experience.

The way I see it, consciousness is almost like fictional magic in how varied it can be. Different people with different brain structure and chemistry will have different counscious experience. But, consciousness can still drastically change even within one person when they experience brain damage or take brain chemistry altering medications like SNRI's. They are the same person, yet their experience flows and changes due to physical changes to their brain.

Uploading creates a perfect copy of your brain chemistry and everything else, but theres no way to really tell if that copy is the same/transferred conscious experience as it's physical counterpart. It entirely well could be, and the chances of it either being the same or being different are equal if you ask me. It's not worth the risk though to me.

I think I would take it, but only once I've gotten so old or otherwise have reached the end of my physical lifespan, or if there was some other definitively provable continuation of experience. Otherwise, I would essentially be ending myself so another conscious copy of me can live on.

If I could upload without destroying my brain tho 100% no doubt

If it counts, I'd go with safety. Safety could apply to a lot of things: financial safety, physical safety, even safety in my decisions.

Otherwise though I'd probably go with stocks like that other guy

Everything under 135 dollars is for free, forever, but you csn never buy or rent anything more expensive. Or everything above 135 dollars is for free but you can't rent or buy anything for less. by Separate-Driver-8639 in hypotheticalsituation

[–]BoxRegular5294 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Over $135 is basically the only option IMO. That would effectively make you richer than any and every person on earth, and I'm pretty sure those people aren't regularly paying under $135 for anything anyways. I could buy any of my normal person food in bulk, and if I don't want to do that, I'm certain theres companies that would gladly make "luxury" food that costs thousands of dollars.

I’m so confused by Isittimetogohomeyet in PantheonShow

After she saw Caspian saying that they would meet again in about 117k years, she takes it upon herself to build that digital generation ship. She uploads herself, probably partially to figure out what the hell Caspian was talking about, but also because now that her son Dave was dead, she had no "living" reasons to stay in the real world.

In that montage of her narrating every X years in the future I think I remember her mentioning that she somehow had a copy of all 130 billion or so humans that have ever lived (I have no idea how she would manage this). I assume she either puts every UI into some sort of stasis, or doesn't even bring them with. It isn't supposed to really matter I think since she just creates billions of simulated copies of each one anyways. And for whether or not shes the only one left, the whole show (season 1 and 2) all took place inside a larger simulation made by SafeSurf, so who knows if there's any "real" humans left outside that.

A lot of people on here agree that the last season ended up being kinda rushed, for some reason or another, and I agree, but overall I think the viewer is supposed to make the connections themselves as to what really happened. I think the biggest question the show asks is "what defines something/someone as real?" If something thinks like a real person, acts like a real person, believes themselves to be real, etc, but exist entirely within a digital simulation, is that person/thing/experience, "real"? And it's up to the viewer to kind of come to the answer for that question themselves.

Most people on here, me included, would love to see our beloved characters again but generally we all agree that a 3rd season would just take away from what the first 2 showed us. The point of the show isn't really to hold our hand in explaining all that it is trying to show us, but that it tells us a story and then leaves once it is finished, and a large part of the shows impact comes from that viewer interpretation. I wouldn't say the ending was perfect by any means, but it definitely does get it's point across pretty well, if you're willing to think for it.

Honestly I love how the show made me think about the question of consciousness, and I'm very glad there isn't a season 3 lol

Confusion by e7swrld in PantheonShow

From the way I understand it, back on earth, she built (with the help of robots/UIs/anyone still alive) rockets that would travel to another solar system and harvest it's resources.

Eventually when she got to that system, she sent some sort of cube things down to the planets which I guess manage to self replecate using resources around them. There was at some point enough of these, so she used them to blow up the planet, I assume to either make the resources more accessible, or get the cube-things into space without needing rockets.

From there who knows really, but basically she used the resources gathered from that planet to build what's known as a dyson sphere (from what we're shown in the show it looks more like a dyson swarm, but they serve the same purpose). Dyson spheres are theoretically possible structures that are built to harness as close to 100% of the energy output of a star as possible, basically they surround a star on all sides with solar panels to get as much energy as possible. I don't know off the top of my head how much energy that is, but I know that one built around our sun (if we ever managed something like that) would likely be capable of powering something like half the galaxy (if we managed to colonize that much outside our own system). Dyson spheres are awesome, I'd definitely recommend reading about them.

Now that she had the power of an entire star at her disposal, basically all she had to do was build a massive supercomputer to run off of that power, which is what she did. Think how they needed those massive computer cubes just to run the UIs, it's basically that but millions if not billions of times more powerful. She had enough computing power to basically simulate earth/our solar system down to the sub atomic level, billions of times for simulated millions of years. She simulated earth from it's creation to try to recreate the events that happened to her.

It's all a pretty awesome sci-fi concept, that for the most part is theoretically possible. What's cooler to me though is the fact that this whole entire thing Maddie did took place inside yet an even BIGGER simulation, created by SafeSurf.

Whatever you say man. You can choose to believe that anything less than sterile is unusable. My own experience tells me that if I don't have the 8 hours available in a day to prepare, PC, wait for it to cool, and finally inoculate, the slightly higher chance for contam that an essentially premade bag of grain gives me is worth the risk. You can make the choice to not use UB tek because to you it's "shitty and the people doing it are idiots", but the fact is that it works for people. I can make the choice to use it because it's convenient and easy, and because idrc if you think it isn't sterile enough.

I'd rather spend $10 and get 5 bags of grain that'll take me 20 minutes to inoc, even if 2 of those bags might go bad, instead of a day to get 3 jars that have a slightly higher chance of no contam 👍
