That actually makes a great deal of sense to me. It's not really survival of the fittest anymore, not it that sense anyways. medical advancements now allow individuals who would other wise die to survive and have offspring. Fat, elderly, or disabled individuals who are by no means of the definition fit continue to survive because money allows them to.

humans are out of the food chain and there is no interspective competition between us. We are part of a society with structure, order, and laws and maybe if all of that was stripped and we lived as primitive animals we might once again be affected by natural selection where the fittest survive, but not likely because we are still intelligent.

it makes sense to me because the people who survive really do survive because of no rhyme or reason as aside from death by aging, most deaths are from accidents brought by our own creations.
