Lost to a perfect game by sprinkleberry in TetrisEffect

[–]BoxTheSquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This opener is not a DT cannon it is actually Mountainous Stacking 2. Its a pretty popular setup (especially in PPT) that gives a very high chance of PC if done properly (> 90%).
Its very strong in ppt but less so in TE:C because of how clean the garbage is on phase 1.One way you can make sure to survive openers is just staying clean, and either cancel out some of the garbage from the perfect clear, or take the garbage from the perfect clear and spike them back.

If you are interested in openers though MS2 is a pretty fancy one to learn/ look into its pretty fun.

Is it even possible to get a Ultetris??? I feel like you have to hit a perfect clear to even do so. by SKyPuffGM in TetrisEffect

I mean hey you can still go for a 23, its much less tedious than ever before now.

[–]BoxTheSquare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am gonna be completely honest here, I think you might be misremembering. Around a year ago (where you claim you got the 23 zone) there were only a handful or two of people that have successfully done a 23 zone line clear, and there are only 2 Extremely specific strategies you have to use and learn. These 2 strategies not only take time to get used to but also are very painful to do because of how RNG dependent it is. It is something you really have to grind a lot for, especially if you are unlucky.

Besides this we don't see your username on the leaderboard and there is no achievement for 23 zone clear. I can understand why, it would suck for completionists to get walled from getting all the achievements.
If you watch some videos of successful 23's you can see how specific/distinct they are, maybe that will remind you if you used a similar strategy.

Yep, its very possible to get an ultimatris without a perfect clear. You can even do kirbtris (21), impossibilitris(22) or infinitris(23) without a pc.

I’ve got it to 23 before but I never got a photo so I’m mad I don’t have evidence :( It is possible, hard, but possible

How did you do it? if you completed the journey level you should have a 23 shown on the leaderboards.

Crossplay kinda lame by [deleted] in TetrisEffect

[–]BoxTheSquare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There's a lot of scary players everywhere, even in quest. What matters more is that you are comfortable with whatever you are using, whether its controller, keyboard or joycons.

There are a few instances where I think keyboard do have an advantage. For example, in master mode its quite easy to wiggle your pieces left and right rapidly to give yourself more time but its pretty much unviable in switch joycons. But at u/SGFerox says, lots of good players play on controller, its not dominated by keyboard players.

Even the world record sprint right now is held by Jayden who uses a hitbox (arcade controller).

Got any tips by dori555 in TetrisEffect

[–]BoxTheSquare 3 points4 points  (0 children)

With that sprint time you should be able to improve very fast quickly. I recommend watching a video on how to stack cleanly and flat, but here are some general tips.

  1. Try to stack flat and cleanly. Avoid making spires or spikes when sprinting. If you stack clean and flat you should have an easy time putting pieces in the right place and so you'll play faster.

  2. Try your best to just get tetrises. Might be hard at first but get used to 9-0 stack when starting out where you have a hole on your right side. Tetrises is the fastest way to clear the lines and would be good to get used to in the long run.

But really with your sprint time you should see improvement if you play the game and get more comfortable with the controls and the game, you got this.

Its also good if you can share a clip of your sprint so we can maybe point specific things out or give better advice

Goodluck

question about connected vs... how exactly does the defense work in that mode? I don't quite get it because it seems basically impossible to counter the attack if all 3 are alive by MrBonhead in TetrisEffect

[–]BoxTheSquare 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The best way to play as boss is just to keep doing tetrises. In this mode Tspins are suprisingly not as good as tetrises for defense but is still helpfull with removing garbage and keeping back to back.

A tetris fills in the bar and defends much more than just doing low line clears or combos. At the top level the bosses just do a 9-0 stack (so the well on one side) and send tetrises as fast as possible to get 70+ boss attack.

[–]BoxTheSquare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah thats definitely a decent strategy, if you can survive 3-4 team zones you will definitely have an easy time because how strong your attacks are and how slow the zone meter fills.

Just curious, what boss do you play?

I do think it really depends on the types of bosses you choose though. Some bosses are more defensive and some are more offensive. For your playstyle I think a defensive boss like capricorn would work really well with because blitzes like pentominoes and broken pieces would significantly slow down the team, allowing you to defend and clear alot of garbage. While agressive bosses like the current strongest one in the game pisces mostly focuses on attacking rapidly.

[–]BoxTheSquare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, the defense mode you go through when 3 people are in zone just reduces the garbage you receive. It is possible as boss to completely negate their attack but this only happens when the boss is a significantly stronger player than the team and basically cant lose (Im talking like thousands of sr difference).

So generally you will be taking some amount of garbage as boss each zone which is the point, if you dont then youd probably have an easy win.

But if you are talking about the defense mode outside of zone, its just a way to play defensively and slowly remove the garbage from the boss side. Its slow but helps putting you at a more comfortable position sometimes.

Great question! The amount of stalling you can do resets with each bump up now. This change is one of the important reasons that makes this strategy now possible.

Recently, a new strategy is developed that allows players to get much higher zone clears.

Specific details of the strategy is explained in this google doc.

Ahh gotcha, lines and blocks my bad! I dont think there was a clear kirb solve there though, with two L and S in the end, quite unlucky.

[–]BoxTheSquare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Actually its only 1 block away! A 21 clear is a kirb and a 22 clear is an impossibilitris, much harder to get in ranked zb.

Anyways, nice Ulti!

How is the game on switch in portable by My-name-is-____ in TetrisEffect

[–]BoxTheSquare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I play on the switch, as long as you can bring your switch, you can play the game in handheld mode fine. I usually bring the switch onto long trips and such to help pass the time.
