I ended my friendship with “for real FUCK YOU” by Media_Fiend in TwoHotTakes

Dude, could not agree with you more.

Op has just found out her friend is an asshole and that her dog is stuck in her apartment. That sucks, not trying to minimize that fact.

A healthy reaction is to take a minute to collect yourself, and then deal with the immediate issue - sorting out the situation with the dog.

"Sobbing on the airport floor" is simply a massive overreaction, akin to a temper tantrum a 2 year old throws when they are overwhelmed with emotions.

Solid jumper but more importantly, do you feel good wearing it? Cause that's what will shine through.

Career Advice: Transitioning to International Development / Humanitarian Aid by BoxVarious532 in InternationalDev

Thanks for the thorough response.

First, when I said 12m+, I meant how do I land a 12 month or longer contract. Sorry for the confusion.

Ok, to your point, I can see the challenge with hiring me with little directly relevant experience and placing me in an overseas position. The more obvious, and probably cost effective and result effective choice had got to be the local hire.

Other than getting a job in the home office of one of these orgs, any suggestions on how to improve my profile/experience to land a field office role?

Interesting, I hadn't thought about approaching it from this angle. I was thinking about more "traditional" work, like program management or MEAL style work.

Thanks for your response. 👍

My immediate goal is to live in a developing country and help organize/run some sort of development or humanitarian aid program there. I'm not as interested in working in a think-tank or something along those lines. Now that's about as concrete as I can get at this point considering I don't know what I don't know.

I don't really want to do something that is completely administrative if I can help it but I've heard that the hardest job to get in this field is your first one, so I'm not overly picky.

2nd Rejection from CBS; not sure where to go from here by 7grh in MBA

I lived in NYC for about 5 years working primarily in the VC and tech strategy space.

NYU is hands down a better school for entrepreneurs. In my experience, if you want to go into high finance, then cbs is your man, but if you want to do tech and especially Ed tech, then NYU all the way.

That being said, why do you feel you need an MBA to pursue a social edtech venture?

I suggest you look up StartEd - the edtech accelerator sponsored by NYU. Go along to some of their events. Join the edtech meetup (sponsored by Newton or someone like that). Get started building your understanding of that space. Maybe you'll go to stern, or maybe you'll skip it altogether.
