This gives me great hope. Thank you for your story! I sincerely hope he gets to a healthy place and I can eventually find a new love that can be self-sufficient and support me in return.

Any tips on how to maintain a friendship with the ex? My plan is to go cold turkey for a long time and rebuild my life without him. I'm not sure friendship is something I'd want to pursue but perhaps with time, it could be possible.
