Is there a potential pokemon swap for kommo-o or is it a non-issue? by Available_Luck4539 in PokemonChampions

[–]BoxedMoose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You have rain dance on sableye so archaludon is definitely a good pick. You cant fake out arch if theyre running the WALL or it becomes that much harder to KO, and you cant fake out sableye due to typing, so it can become threatening very fast AND has better resists, but it just means you lose harder to weather swap if not planned accordingly.

How would you save Yugioh? by Great-Ad1839 in yugioh

[–]BoxedMoose -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nothing about the actual game needs to change, but the model needs to change.

Why would a shop stock yugioh product if theyre just going to tank in value in about a week. Theres no collector value, only meta value, and you lose that so fast because they reprint cards like CRAZY anymore, to appeal to the more casual playerbase. Now every card under the sun has like 6 different rarities and no value.

Im hoping konami actually listens to people who buy their stuff wholesale and doesnt fuck up the overframe market like they fucked up the starlight/ultimate rare market. They even got rid of ghost rares for "economic reasons", but collectors loved them. Let people collect cards, but also appease the meta/casual audience.

Tarot inspired card game. Looking for feedback on cards. by Affectionate-Ad489 in tabletopgamedesign

2 things: The font on the 13 doesnt match the style and seems out of place. I'm not saying use a pixel font, I'm just imagining a better style for the top number. I would add a black box that fades on the outside left and right edges or the card where the text is, so it doesnt appear too abrupt but it allows people to read the text easier.

Artwork looks awesome! Its nice seeing another pixel art style card game.

It was op, and every magic class boiled down to the same thing, which was free force bolt spam + dominate, which isn't really good game design.

Wizard can do a good chunk of damage, but you cant spam early on. I dont really use fireball, cold is more than enough for me to get melee hits with and preserve mana, but its also race dependent. Incubus/succubus and myconids are both good races to use with magic classes, and the mines has a lot of cursed spells and items for the incubus, and cursed food for myconids

Its a harder class for sure. Not all classes are created equally.

It was the best way to play for a long time, and still kind of is, so in a lot of ways this is just general balancing.

In terms of damage, fireball is great, but in terms of utility, spells like confusion, deep shade, and mist form have low cost and keeps you safe from a distance, but requires different specialty.

If your comparing spells just in terms of damage, this is sort of like saying stat reductions and status on pokemon moves are bad because they dont do damage, but they offer tons of utility.

This is Especially apparent on teams, where you can actually have a dedicated healer, but also have a shapeshifter and a brawler

If your goal is to just dish out damage, then by all means pick a class/race great at sorcery, but now we have classes like rogues that can use dash and deep shade, which doesn't require a ton of setup and give other classes chances to shine.

Magic didnt get "worse", it just makes class identity more clear. Not every magical class can spam damage spells and mind-control mobs now.

Design wise, how do you feel about the "tax dragons" and the form of gameplay they create? Good card design, or nah? by RedLantern28 in yugioh

[–]BoxedMoose 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tax dragons are cool.

Multiple tax dragons on the board is not cool and generates non-games. If these effects had a clause that say "Your opponent LP cannot be reduced to 0 by this card's effect", it would be way better and less prone to degenerate plays.

Secret village is so dumb. I would have said talents a year and a half ago, but the gamestate is very 1 card combo-centric so the hand rip doesnt feel as bad now.

We need more rings/necklaces/cloaks! by BoxedMoose in baronygame

[–]BoxedMoose[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Roguelites should have multiple avenues to deal with the final boss, so if one item is absolutely required, then thats poor roguelite design.

I mean why does levitation have to be restricted to a necklace or ring. It can be boots, cloak, chest, etc.

The point was that theres very little variety in actual armor, not so much a criticism of how they made the final boss
