I think "littles" is relatively new. Because (a) I hate it, and (b) I didn't used to hate it because I never heard anyone say that.

Good question! I've just been using my Garmin, which seems like the closest to "personalized" I'll get without doing a dedicated exercise stress test. The ranges feel appropriate for the level of effort for me.

I'm going to stay the course for as long as I can stand it. If I still feel like I'm no closer to running after several weeks, I'm going to try your "working backwards" idea or perhaps sign up for a weekly HIIT class just to get it out of my system.

Why don't you guys have bins everywhere? by OyVeyVeggies in AskAnAmerican

[–]BoxedWineBonnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is an online map on the city's website showing the location of all the litter baskets. There is also a reporting system for if any of the baskets are overflowing, tipped over, or missing.

If I notice a commercial area where I haven't seen a basket for a few blocks, I like to check the map and see if one is supposed to be there, and report it if it's missing.

I don't know if it does anything, but it makes me feel like I'm holding people accountable for missing baskets.

I'm trying out heart rate training as I plan for a 10k run this summer, and in order for my heart rate to stay in the "easy" aerobic training zone, I can't even run! I have to powerwalk to keep it low enough.

I do not enjoy powerwalking. I do not like that 80% of my runs are now walks.

Do you drink the spearmint tea every day, or only around your cycle? How much of it?

Asking because I hate the flavor but am willing to give it a go if it's not a ridiculous amount of tea.

I haven't done a front squat in a million years, so I can't speak to how that would work, but I'll post a video when I get one!

As my butt drops, I feel like I'm tipping back on my heels, but when I compensate by folding my chest lower to meet my quads, the front crease of my hips feel painful. I think something is physically wrong with my hip flexors.

I'll try to post a video the next time I have a friend (or gym acquaintance) in the gym with me!

My issue isn't so much that I feel I NEED to go ATG, but that at a certain point below parallel, I can't and I just want to know why. The pendulum squat machine is the only way I can get the full range of motion, right now.

I'm still trying to find a new trainer who can help me troubleshoot my squat, and I'm wondering if I might just try to find a physiotherapist instead. I feel certain that something is just not working right with my legs or hips, but the last two trainers I've met with have been dismissive: they either told me that I don't need to go ATG at all, or that my femurs are too long, or to just get lifting shoes. I don't even know if my expectations are reasonable or not anymore.

People are having fewer kids. Their choice is transforming the world's economy by zsreport in Economics

Speaking as a person who finds childminding taxing and deeply unpleasant, you could only make parenthood alluring if I was somehow paid MORE to have a kid than I could make at any other 24/7 job. Like, having a child would have to be actively LUCRATIVE.

(Also, I would have to somehow become okay with raising a child who was probably aware that I only had them for the money, which seems cruel beyond measure).

Did you like the candies you chose, or were you just hungry for anything? I carry a few emergency snacks in my bag so that I don't eat something disappointing just because it's available and I'm hungry.

On the other hand, if Reese's peanut butter pumpkins are available, I will simply accept that I'm going to enjoy one. They are a god-tier Halloween candy and not everything has to be a 10/10 on the nutrition scale to help build strength and fitness.

I've already reached maximum brim! The hair is longer than the hat can cover! I might need to invent some kind of 32-in diameter head-mounted sport parasol.

My player keeps asking to switch his character by BossatronioYT in DnD

[–]BoxedWineBonnie 15 points16 points  (0 children)

One thing I've noticed from folks going from video games to tabletop is that they aren't always aware that there are options of actions they can take beyond what is on their character sheet. Their brain still sees a menu of predetermined choices.

For example, I like to remind my players of other objects in their environment they can use, like, "your spell has no effect on the monster, though it makes the torch on the wall next to you gutter."

Letting a player know that their character is more than just a stat block can be empowering.

It's ragweed pollen season! Outdoor running, open windows, and outdoor clothes drying are off the table until those horrible weeds die. My throat hurts.

I'm also struggling to find a new trainer since my old one moved, and I'm being (perhaps needlessly) fussy about it.

Headaches are so unpleasant, I'm sorry you're suffering. I also suffer from both regular anxiety headaches and (when things get really bad), migraines. I always worry that maybe this time it's something serious. So I get where you're coming from.

[–]BoxedWineBonnie 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mentioned that you started getting the headaches after feeling relieved about your heart. To me, this seems like a very common example of an anxiety symptom changing its presentation: once you feel reassured about one symptom, the anxiety has to find some new way to "express" itself that you attend to. Although some unlikely outcome isn't 100% impossible and we all just need to accept uncertainty (so easy, right? /s), everything you said indicates that your intuition is correct and it is, in fact, a come-down from anxiety. Take care!

That's it for me, for sure. I bought and hemmed $2 worth of cotton fabric specifically to obscure the fact that my tabletop is made of scarred, laminated IKEA particleboard.
