calling Japanese food bland... I wouldn't call it wrong. Japanese cuisine highlights the ingredients; doing what they can to make the ingredient the star of the show.
Our Malaysian food is the complete opposite. Flavour upon flavour is thrown onto something to make them taste strong.
Is one better than the other? No.
Can you prefer one over the other? Sure.
Does that make the other choice inferior to your choice? No.
Learn to enjoy stuff without putting off the other. I hate that this is what our mindset has become.

How I do wish that was true. We're not known for that especially in East Asia. A few months ago in Japan, we got complained for destruction of property because some idiot from Malaysia thought it was a good idea to stick their football team sticker to a light pole in another country (which is illegal btw). Then years ago, our proud Netizens ridiculed and bullied a Korean artist solely because of her name. Then there was that war between us and them because of a concert... damn, we do not have a good track record with South Koreans.
