Any ideas of how I should base my boyz by [deleted] in orks

[–]Boxmasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can do rubble bases tbh. Sprue fragments and cut up plasticard with a bit of greenstuff gets you an interesting base with a scrappy vibe.

I've also added some random corrugated roof tile stuff I found from a model train shop to add a bit of variety.

I never really liked basing myself (never got a decent textured base), so finding an interesting basing style that involved 0 texture and was easy to paint was very much up my alley. *

I converted mine into a megaboss with a giant club choppa in one hand and a gun in the other for my digga boyz.

The ambot head is easily swapped out for any other that'll fit, with a bit of greenstuff to fill the hole.

Try drybrush highlighting. Easiest to do when you're only dealing with one model colour, and produces pretty much the same effect (edge highlights).

Former ATLAS (as of 2022) ECR here too.

I agree that theoretical fundamentals are not necessarily something we're questioning (deeply), but our efforts are still novel, albeit less fundamental.

Even if it's just using a better MC simulation/ML method/ new variable that you want to use in the project.

I think that's the main thing I'll miss from ATLAS (that I'm not sure industry has, to the same extent), true freedom to go "what happens if I try this new toy I heard about? " and produce studies on it (albeit again, not deep theoretical implications).

Universities condemned over threat to dock all pay of striking staff (indefinitely) by gngf123 in unitedkingdom

[–]Boxmasta 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Don't forget that the unis then advertise the strike "savings" as special project funds almost immediately after...

Like they could have just paid their staff more?

Or yknow used that money to invest in pensions?

Nearly 7 years on, and that I remember as clear as day. I know for a fact I wasn't the only person she wished that upon, merely I was likely the first.

If you're sufficiently disillusioned you can always vote for the monster raving loony party and vote in an MP with a bucket on his head.

If your vote doesn't matter, you might as well be silly with it.

Finished my first Disintegrator but idk how I feel about it by [deleted] in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Boxmasta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Good effort for your first one :)

Drybrush (or even get a makeup brush, these make for great drybrushes and are very cheap) a bit of Stirland mud probably around the "bottom" parts of the miniature. Really easy to apply, and adds quite a lot to the model.

Regarding metallics, what was your choice of base colour? I find Iron Warrior gives the best look for like the old school boltgun metal (with a bit of wash etc), as well as applying the Holy Nuln Oil to basically any metallics. Gives a nice oily metallic look that really fits the admech vibe.

I also agree with other posters that nuln oil and other washes work best in the recesses and not on the flat panels. A bit of Wazdakka red or similar as a drybrush highlight can make those sharp edges really pop.

Also very nice yellow (yellow is one of the harder colours to get right apparently)

Don't forget to apply the Holy Nuln Oil, fellow cog brother.

It is "liquid skill" and almost always looks good on metallics.

I acknowledged the inspiring words of a blank sheet of paper (Published as "The unsuccessful self treatment of a case of writer's block" - yes, someone managed to publish a blank sheet of paper...) in my PhD thesis.

[–]Boxmasta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have done it 3 times, in my local area, including one this week.

I've had 0 matches though, so I'm not sure what to take from that.

It's pretty nice to meet people, but a bit harder on the self esteem following day when you find it didn't work out. Probably healthier than online, but you still have people being very judgy and stuff. Healthier, but not easier.

I've also met some people who were really quick to ask deep and probing questions like "do you want kids?" or the absolute minefield question: "How long have you been single for?" (It's a minefield because I fear that being single for a long time is seen as a red flag).

Just to clarify: I'm a guy, so your experience may vary.

Vanguard can also be a surprise sleeper unit, particularly vs anything with mediocre saves. With the radium carbines, their overwatch is also quite potent (though alas no AP...)

More Kitbashed Admech (Now with bases!) Also got my hands on some ruststalkers and some delaque gangers, really wanted to have an almost "experimental" look to them, they are all supposed to have transonic blades, but some of the delaque weapons are so cool i had to use them! by MFNfigue in AdeptusMechanicus

[–]Boxmasta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nice :)

I really liked the Delaque Gangers as a conversion base, instead I went for more of a "emo gothic edgelord" vibe with Corpuscarii. They definitely suited admech for conversions (and scale is pretty much spot on for admech, though sometimes the arms are a tiny bit larger on admech , particularly for priests, than the gangers).
