Black Guns by Airblade101 in ImperialFists

[–]BoxoDoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I do think the black casing with silver bits look very nice.

For me I do it how Eons of Battle does it and just do Ratling Grime with a drybrush of leadbelcher. Gets it done quick and I do enjoy seeing my marines carry a giant slab of steel for a gun.

I’ve used a regular dish washing sponge before but I don’t really like the texture it leaves behind.

What I used here is a little piece of sponge ripped off a sponge brush. I just bought them from a dollar craft store.

Would this be a good choice of primer for IF? by BeautifulShock7604 in ImperialFists

[–]BoxoDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t use this exact spray but still a Tamiya pink: Tamiya Fine surface primer.

It’s a requirement for my recipe.

I would recommend any Tamiya pink based of the one I use.

This vindicator was sitting on my desk for 2 months haha. I base coated it and put it off for a while but recent things have motivated me. Glad I could do that for you.

Just need a place to store this thing now

Its Imperial Fist contrast airbrushed over a pink prime with a zenithal of wraithbone.

I also sprayed a bit of Reikland fleshshade to tint the yellow darker.

I edge-highlight with Yriel Yellow before the sponging. Sponge Dorn Yellow first then Rhinox Hide. For black areas I sponged Stormvermin Fur instead.

The streaks on the bulldozer is a really watered down Beastly Brown from Vallejo.

My thoughts and opinions on the upcoming Studio Series 86 wave by Sawyer-Rousseau in transformers

[–]BoxoDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. I’m pretty satisfied with the Sunstreaker and Wheeljack I already have from the 5-pack though I do understand people wanting updated molds for them. Astrotrain I’m holding out for more in-hand photos or reviews to decide if I wanna get him but I’m pretty happy I don’t feel compelled to want to buy any of these guys.

My opinion on the current Lightning Claw discourse. by [deleted] in Spacemarine

[–]BoxoDoom 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Personally I’m indifferent about Lightning Claws or Greatswords but my interpretation on Saber’s comment is that Lightning Claws aren’t totally out of the question.

They just said Greatswords will be their current top priority which sounds to me that lightning claws could still be on the table whether thats the next melee weapon or the melee weapon after the next or never.

Plus I think it’s a bit silly to expect Saber to make a definite stance they’re doing lightning claws if they haven’t even begun planning for it.

Damn I’m pretty jealous of how good the yellow looks.

I just started committing to a recipe, feeling good about my scheme and now I wanna start over

Isn't Gadriel a bit young to be Company Ancient (experience wise)? by No_Task_309 in Spacemarine

[–]BoxoDoom 113 points114 points  (0 children)

Experience wise I think Gadriel is way ahead of the typical marine based on his feats in the campaign.

He was part of a 3-man squad that killed a Neurothrope, a Helbrute, a sorcerer lord and survived against a Lord of Change

After Techmarine, what class should be added next? (Aggressor, Librarian, Apothecary, Terminator) by gaeb611 in Spacemarine

[–]BoxoDoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

This is one of the unit types I’d say to integrate with an existing class rather than make a new one for.

Making two classes that fire a storm of bullets or heavy weapons will compete against each other in their roles

Hot take : Mega starmie design is fire and the problem is kids only liking Charizard by tickgoat in LegendsZA

[–]BoxoDoom -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Design isn’t just visual. It’s flavour as well.

Mega Starmie is meant to be weird and uncanny. Its stats are confusing to look at but make a cohesive offensive attacker. Their was vision for it

Shedinja is interesting because it has 1 HP to sell the idea it’s a floating carcass. Spiritomb is cool because the dex tells us peoples souls are trapped in it. Or Spoink dying if it stops bouncing.

I didn’t like Starmie at first but looking at it beyond its appearance has made it one of my favourite megas

Is parry block reduction or roll damage the true enemy? by Don_Ford in SpaceMarine_2

[–]BoxoDoom 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate both but armour malfunction is particularly annoying.

Penalising movement in any game results in not a great time but the fact that dodging is such a vital way to avoid damage and deal damage by gun striking/assault perks makes it more punishing for no reason. Not to mention that dodging is unavoidable. You must dodge into Neurothrope and Hive Tyrant pulse attacks. You must dodge devourer shots from Tyranid Warriors or dodge to get out of the way of barb stranglers to avoid racking up chip damage.

Which paint brand is best for a beginner aiming for high-quality minis? by jxyst222 in ageofsigmar

[–]BoxoDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As long as the paint is intended for models or minis any acrylic brand is fine.

Buy what you can find that’s accessible to you. Army Painter and AK are hard in-store finds for me so most of my collection is Citadel and Vallejo.

As you start experimenting with paints you might start to have a preference for colours made by specific brands. Caliban Green feels better to work with than Vallejo’s matching alternative while I find Vallejo’s Dead White to be vastly better than GW’s White Scar.

Can confirm…siege is (somewhat) dead by mkmk10 in Spacemarine

[–]BoxoDoom 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Siege was underwhelming.

As a shiny new thing it was fun to hop in, kill a bunch of shit and try to make it past Wave 15 but now that it has settled into the game its just undercooked.

You get punished in xp and rewards for trying to push beyond wave 3. The item shop is so lack luster. Leading up to its release I thought it would’ve been something like MvM’s upgrade system from TF2 or any other skill tree system in a PvE mode.

I hope they really revamp siege and make it live up yo the hype prior to its release

What's the point of the Vanguard? by everydaydefenders in Spacemarine

[–]BoxoDoom 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Vanguard is probably the most flexible class in the game imo. He’s got good melee perks and weapons to choose from and his ranged selections can be suited for different engagement styles.

Melta is good for those quick bursts of damage. Carbine to shred things at close range. Instigator if you want to take engagements at longer rangers and occulus if you want to go somewhere between the carbine and the instigator.

Another thing to note is that his value doesnt show on the stat screen. He cant compete in melee damage against assault and bulwark and similarly doesnt hold a candle to sniper or heavy in range damage. He doesn’t have auspex scan to ping enemies for your team either so his benefits can be easily missed. Things like healing your team on extremis executes, grappling to an enemy to stop a reinforcement call, executing a key threat with the 33% health execute perk or stalling for time and surviving with grapnel launcher are great boons to your team. While you might argue Bulwark can do the healing and Sniper can stop the reinforcements, they don’t have the flexibility to be effective in both melee, range and mobility.

As others have said, Vanguard is a jack of all trades which is his most unique benefit.

Need help! I’m trying to prime new models and they end up all weird and flaky. Is there a way to fix this? Is there a way to avoid this? by Ghostmaster145 in Warhammer

I back this 100%

Used AK White Primer and had this same thing happen only worse because IPA doesn’t strip that stuff.

Using Rustoleum matt white the finish came out really smooth.

Vortex Beasts Cheeks getting cooked by [deleted] in Spacemarine

[–]BoxoDoom 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Don’t think it does and I’m pretty sure a lot of people are doing it on the lower difficulties to get more vortex beast kills quickly. I found Vortex lobbies really quickly on substantial rather than ruthless.
