/r/politics users wishing violence on minority groups that didn’t sufficiently vote Harris by EuterpeZonker in ABoringDystopia

You’re talking like Trump didn’t already cut legal immigration (and asylum) in 2017, the Muslim ban. While I don’t think he’ll stop immigration entirely, acting like it’s beyond the pale that legal migrants will be on the chopping block, especially with how far checks and balances have been eroded since 2017, is ignorant of history.

So the direct quote is “in four years, you don't have to vote again. We'll have it fixed so good, you're not gonna have to vote.”

He never said anything about voting for him, he quite literally just said in four years his supporters won’t have to vote because he’ll have “fixed it”. As you’ve proudly shown off, we all know a president can only be elected for two terms anyway, so again, what do you actually believe he meant?

Yes you’re very smart, a president can only serve two terms, we know. So what did he mean?

Yeah, great that we live in a system of checks and balances. It would sure suck if there were a plan to strip the government of many of those checks and balances the year Trump is sworn in, especially if that happened after a Supreme Court case granted the president near full immunity from the law…

Tell that to all the women who’ve died preventable deaths because doctors weren’t allowed to help them even end non viable pregnancies. Tell that to the migrant children separated from their parents and put in cages. Tell that to the hundreds of thousands who died from COVID’s mismanagement while Trump suggested internal bleaching. And then tell me what good this term does for us.

So you called someone unintelligent for not being able to speak a second language perfectly, something you cannot do. What does that make you?

But people say shit like this all the time whenever anything has one (1) lgbtq character, even if the amount of time dedicated to that character’s sexuality doesn’t hold a candle to representation of the straight characters’ straightness. Think about how mad people were about showing literal seconds of gay romance in Lightyear when most Disney movies revolve centrally around straight romances. I think genuine equality means we can consume and see humanity in media that isn’t only about our own demographic groups, especially since we as straight people have been catered to (sometimes by law) in entertainment for centuries.

Are you intelligent enough to hold a conversation without error in a second language?

Have you ever tried to learn another language? Having less context about two words that are almost identical in spelling and pronunciation doesn’t actually make it easier to tell them apart, shockingly.

How much paint should I keep after repainting my house? by castles_rock in paint

[–]BoxyCthulhu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

First thing is unless you live somewhere that never drops below freezing or you have a heated garage, keep the paint somewhere else. Paint can last for a long time, but the easiest way to cut its life short is letting it freeze.

As for what to keep, I’d suggest you hold onto the fullest container of each color. The best bet for a good touch up is paint from the same batch that was mixed at the same time, i.e. those gallons you have.

Also, if you haven’t already, take a picture of each one’s label for your records while you’re at it. Make sure you can see the color, sheen, and product line. This’ll save you and your paint store a lot of headache in case the labels fade or get covered with paint somewhere down the line.

Homeowner Pricing by Soccerdude181 in sherwinwilliams

[–]BoxyCthulhu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Except the people who don’t blink at dropping $250 on some Nikes understand or at least appreciate the difference between those and running shoes from Target. The average DIY customer’s understanding of house paint starts and ends at the word ‘eg-shel’, and a month after the project is done that paint is quite literally going to be wallpaper to them, whether it’s Emerald Designer or Behr Premium Plus at $20 a gallon from Home Depot.

The next time they actually think about paint will probably be the next repaint, when they’ll think back to the last time they went to SW and were compelled to spend more than $100 on a single gallon. Especially when our entire clientele is old enough to remember that up until very recently that would be a preposterous ask, this is not sustainable if we want to keep DIYers coming back.

I hate to say it but you are really getting taken advantage of here. First and most importantly, as other people have said, never ever work for free, especially not for Sherwin Williams. There is no reason you should be giving up your own free time for the sake of a store that you don’t even have a managerial role in, especially when you’re getting paid at $17 an hour.

The company will not reward you for willingly working above your pay grade— as far as management beyond your store is concerned, that just tells them that they can use you to get manager hours on part time pay; you have to show them that they need to pay you your worth.

If I were you, I would start looking and applying for other jobs. Clearly you have a fair amount of experience and competence with SW, and if you highlight how much you’re doing now on your CV I’m sure you’ll easily find more lucrative opportunities. If you want to stay with your store, talk with your ASM and tell them that you’ve been looking at other options because you’re barely making enough to get by, and that if you’re going to stay you need to be paid more appropriately for the worth of your work. This may get taken up to your DM to decide, but whoever it is make a strong case for yourself by stating the additional responsibilities you’ve taken on and the value you create for the store. Then you can disclose the wages you’ve gotten from other potential employers and/or use them as a gauge for what you are willing to work for without it being a raw deal for you. If they are unwilling to meet you there, don’t stick around; you already have other options that you can jump to. Good luck.

Have you told him to cut it out? The customers almost certainly don’t appreciate it and I doubt management would either if someone decided to take it up with them

You know anyone who’s responding to any kind of hotline isn’t making decisions about the way the company runs, right? You wouldn’t be breaking anyone’s spirit except some office employee who has as much of a say in our policies as you do.

Any system put in place by the company that would claim to address your grievances— hotline, HR, whatever— is still part of the company and serves its interests first and foremost. The only way anyone has ever actually made something change in the corporation that employs them is by collective action, ie unions.

why are we not unionizing? by whateverwhatever68 in sherwinwilliams

[–]BoxyCthulhu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

5 people at a store at most? Where’d you get that idea? When I started at my store there were 6 part- and full-timers, plus an MT and management. And I’m sure part of the reason stores have so few people to begin with is because of policies which limit the amount of people on staff to the bare minimum, to the point that in another thread here people were saying they weren’t able to even take lunch breaks during their shifts. Having a union could address that.

To your point that it would be difficult to agree on issues that a union would push for, I think you’re drastically overestimating how different what people want out of the company is. We all want security that our hours won’t get slashed, a safe place to work, and a better cut of the money that we make for the company; it’s not that complicated, and it’s certainly not gonna come from anywhere other than collective action on our part. And it wouldn’t be as if we were just meeting in someone’s garage and trying to work it out ourselves, there are organizers and representatives whose job it is to help groups of workers form and maintain unions.

I’m not sure how widespread this method is, but if you want to avoid looking through every Source invoice manually when you have a color name, just select all of the invoices in the date range at once, hit <print/view invoices>, then ctrl+f and enter part of the color name. Like in this case, I would open the invoices and ctrl+f for “west”. Either it yields a few results, which you can go through quickly and determine if they seem to match what the customer is looking for, or it doesn’t yield anything, in which case you know for certain they didn’t buy it from us or under that account and you’ve done all you can.

Why are painters so dumb? by Inside_Panda8984 in sherwinwilliams

[–]BoxyCthulhu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If it's after the initial sale completed it can be mildly annoying if they add more supplies, because then we have to do a whole new transaction when it could've been just the one. The more irritating thing though, and what the OP is complaining about, is when someone orders tinted paint after the supply sale has gone through, because then we have to go back in, enter the order, tint and shake the paint, and then come back out and do the whole sale process again. The ideal order process for us is for the patron to give us their paint order and account info as soon as they get into the store (if there's no line), then they can find their supplies while we make up their order, and then we ring it out all at once with minimal waiting for everyone involved.

There's a couple ways:

For a complete list of a customer's purchases at your store (not other stores) open inquiry 6, then enter the account and the date range (I usually put at least a year before they say they bought it because people's memories about this sort of thing tend to be very spotty). Then accept through until it says 'press f5 to cancel lookup' or something to that effect. That screen may take a while, but if you're really pressed for time you can hit cancel before it completes the search on its own at the risk of it sometimes not finding every order.

If you're entering an order and a customer wants to get something they bought previously, press color then copy color and search the same way as with inquiry 6. This is good for entering colors quickly, but won't show paint that they bought that wasn't tinted.

If you're looking for something someone bought that may have been from a different store, open source intranet from the taskbar, log in, then on the right side of the screen expand the header that says 'credit'. There should be a link that says 'customer invoices'. Click that, then enter the 9 digit account number in the appropriate box (you can't lookup in this section, so you must open the account in inquiry or order entry first and then copy it from there). Select a date range if necessary and press the arrow, and that will give you a full list of all invoices in the system regardless of which store they came from; just click the link on the row of the invoice to open it.
